I'm having a bridal shower in September, and then for the bachelorette party me and some friends are flying to Vegas... The day after the shower.  I have registered at your normal home good stores for stuff for the wedding, and that can also be bought as a shower gift, but a friend of mine suggested registering at Fredericks or Victoria Secrets for personal gifts.  When I talked to my mom and god mother about it, they thought it was a horrible idea because it's a bridal shower, and not a personal shower. 

I can understand their point, but I also know a fair amount of people enjoy the more intimate side for gifts... 

Should I set up a registry, and only tell people if they ask, or should I just forget about it?

Bridal showers and bachelorette parties warrant two completely different sets of gifts. The Bridal showers I've been too were calm, formal, and full of gifts off the wedding registry (things more for the bride...kitchen tools, decorative items...not the tools or garage organizers off the registry). Bachelorette parties are for the personal gifts of places like VS....and you don't need a registry. Half the fun of it is seeing what people come up with on their own to give! If you do have certain tastes, it's perfectly acceptable to voice those to people who ask (for the bachelorette). It's your friends....and Vegas...bachelorette party rules are way more flexible than bridal showers. Keep the trashy in Vegas though--don't let it get near your shower!

I've actually never heard of gifts at a b-party.  In our circle, a b-party is more of a fun night out with closest friends.  It's not at all a gift giving event.

So I'd be more inclined to do a traditional registry for your shower.  I'm not averse to "special garments", but I personally don't find them appropriate for a shower gift.  I think that someone should be buying their own "special garments."

I've also never heard of bachelorette party gifts, outside of buying the bride drinks.

I feel that them joining me in Vegas is a gift.  They are paying to go, so I would never think or expect them to include gifts.  The bridal shower I am having is nothing like a normal shower, we are doing a Luau.  I think I will just leave things alone and see what ever people want to get.  I think some of the younger attendants may be interested in personal gifts, while the more mature (shall we say) attendants would be more comfortable with gifts from the registry.

She's probably thinking of bachelorette party gifts, which I don't think are all that comon.  I got one bachelorette gift and was completely creeped out that someone bought me undergarments.

I was going off a suggestion from a friend who has hosted quite a few of parties... I was just wondering what other people thought.

I have been in 8 weddings in 3 years and every single one of them, everyone gave a b-party gift.  The first one was to my cousin, who I didn't get her a gift because it was my first b-party.  Everyone made me feel stupid for not. lol.  So from then on out every b-party i have been to, the MOH sends emails to everyone what the bride wants for her b-party gift.  I too was surprised and it was kinda creepy seeing what people got people. LOL SO I always just showed up with a nice bottle of wine or the brides favorite drink.  I Just thought I would post because I didn't realize it was uncommon to bring a b-party gift.

I guess if they girls going on your trip or some of your other close girl friends want to get you a b-party gift, let them but you are right in thinking to not register and just see what people get.  HAVE FUN IN VEGAS!

Shockingly, I've never heard of not having b-party gifts.
