Gruesome pics on FB

Does anyone else have FB friends like this? A few of my friends have posted disturbing pics of abused animals and saying, "OMG SEE WHAT PEOPLE DO? STOP ABUSING ANIMALS."

I am all for using FB to network and get out info about a cause you care about. I volunteer at a sexual assault program and I use my FB to post notices about events we're putting on and other news about sexual assault. However, that's TEXT. NOT gruesome images!

My cousin (who is only 15, by the way) just posted a picture of a dog who apparently had a firecracker shoved in his mouth by some kids and it blew up....I'm seriously feeling sick to my stomach. What is up with posting these kinds of pics on FB? I don't feel like it helps the cause at all and is just unnecessary.

Re: Gruesome pics on FB

  • I agree, I had a cousin who posted that kind of stuff and I finally unfriended her. :( It was just too sad to have to see every single time I logged on!  Also, they are not advertising an agency to help stop cruelty, I agree they are just unecessary and depressing.
  • I have a friend who does this.  I love her to death, and I think she's an awesome person for all of the volunteer work she does for dogs.  But I had to "unsubscribe" from all of her posts so they would stop showing up on my news feed.
  • Ugh, I've seen that photo. So sad. It's so incredibly difficult to look at, poor dog :-(

But I agree.. I don't really see what it's going to do. I would never do something like that, so me seeing that photo doesn't really do anything other than make me sad. There are sick people in this world that probably see it and laugh or don't care, so it's not really helping them either. I don't know. It's just sad.

  • My friend kept posting up pictures of his dead baby. I have his posts blocked from my wall feed now.

  • Someone posted a video like that on my wall. I can't even look at it.

  • I try to ignore those posts. They bother me. I get you're trying to create awareness but there is a limit.

  • Im not sure if this is true or not but....I was told that those posts happen (the firecracker dog, dead baby, and there was one other around the time of the baby but I cannot recal) when someones facebook gets a virus?? It happened on one of my friends accounts and she claimed that she did not post the picture and from her account could not even see it.  Only her friends could see it in their news feeds and on their walls.

Im not sure if this is the real case but a few different people have said it is a virus. I hope it is and that those pictures are photoshoped.
I've loved you since I was 8 years old...

  • I follow an FB page that posts about abused animals and provides help to the ASPCA etc. Everyone once in a while I'll share a story link about an abused animal. Sometimes they have pictures, sometimes they don't. It does help raise awareness. I've had several friends who now also follow the page and donate regularly.

I understand that people don't want to see certain pictures, but I don't understand the complaint about it when you can easily not see it anymore. Either unsubsccribe to their posts or delete them. Plain and simple. It's like complaining about being caught in a rainstorm but refusing to go inside.

  • Some of those pictures are photoshopped. The story about how people use dogs as shark bait and has a picture of a dog with a hook in its face is fake.

But even if people genuinely think those are real and want to share, it doesn't do much. Its like when people post the crap like "I think domestic abuse is a terrible thing, if you have a heart and agree, than REPOST this!"
First of all, I agree its a terrible thing, but I don't feel the need to plaster that all over my wall
and second, what exactly are you helping? If you feel the need to do something, than go DO something. volunteer at a battered women's shelter, or rescue an abused dog.

I think those kinds of posts are just for people to feel like they've done something, when they don't want to make the effort to actually do anything.

  • Have you noticed it's not just on fb its in everyday life?? I remember growing up and everything was pretty sheltered, I felt like an adult when i got to watch a movie where they had  one cuss word, now just in tv shows the cuss like its nothing, and not even just tv shows, now they are selling birthday cards with cuss words in them. Adults and teens are making poor decisions then they are mad at the rest of the world due to the consequences they received saying they are un lawful. Todays world is scary, and i hate to see what it will be like when my children are grown up. This world has become sick with disrespect....

Maybe in some cases but I had a FB friend that posted the one about the dog/firecracker and she definitely posted it on purpose - she continued to comment on the link.

  • I've seen that SAME exact pic through my feed and it's disgusting. I know there are cruel people out there, it's fine if you want to post stuff to increase awareness, but when I'm checking FB and my little girl is chilling next to me, I don't want her to see a pic of a dog with his face blown off.

It's like the other day I wound up in an ODD part of YouTube where people post videos/pictures of their dead babies. I'm all for giving yourself peace by naming, taking pictures with and holding a (God forbid) still born baby, etc, but posting it to YouTube? I was wrecked for the rest of the day!
  • I wish people wouldnt post stuff like that!! i understand that they are just trying to help the cause but no one seriously wants to see those kinds of pics.. Just the aspca commercials makes me cry, i have to turn the channel when it comes on.
  • The firecracker in mouth, look what this dad did to his daughter, omg what a ho.. ect... posts are what happens when gullible people click in to spam links with viruses.. they probably don't  even know their FB is posting it until someone tells them..

The only fix is a change of password that I know of so be a pal and TELL them their account got jacked instead of blocking them :)

(case in point: my grandma is silly and her FB started popping up porn posts.. I don't think she was actually posting those herself.... but man was she embarrassed when we told her)
