Your Thoughts

Hello Everyone, I am having a hard time focusing at work today because I am really trying hard to come up with a way to have a wedding that won't leave us completely broke. So I have been thinking of a NYE wedding. We would do a 7:00 ceremony in the same room as the reception and then serve heavy hor'derves with dancing until about 1:00am. With this idea I would think we would need to find a venue in or close to a hotel.  What are your thoughts on a NYE wedding? Do you know of a restaurant that would allow something like this? We are in the Dover, Portsmouth area and would like to travel not further than an hour away. The other point I would need to make is that we would really have a tight budget if we had our wedding only 4 months out. I know crazy, right?

I LOVE the idea of a NYE wedding!!!!I think having it at a hotel would be perfect (especially in Portsmouth) since New Years Eve is often quite the party night... I think heavy hor'derves with some cocktails would be an amazing idea since you're doing it later in the evening! Just make sure to send out Save the Dates early since it's on a "holiday" that many people set plans for. Also, many hotels keep up their holiday decor around New Years which means less $ spent on decor for you! Starting a new year as a new family, how fun and I am so loving this idea!!!!

I agree with Candi. A NYE wedding would be wonderful! People already plan to go out and I would love it if a wedding were my plans for NYE. A hotel would be great and there are some really nice ones in the area. Good luck!!

Friends of ours attended a NYE wedding a couple years ago and said it was pretty fun...same thing with food too.  They had heavy appetizers/snacks & cocktails.  Then I think right before midnight they served another round of snacks, which included mini-cheeseburgers.  They had a blast and said people seemed to enjoy it!  HOW FUN!  What a great idea!

I'm going to go against the grain on this one...  I'd be annoyed with a NYE wedding...  FBIL is getting married on 1/2/10, and I'm not happy about the fact that it dictates our holiday plans...  (not to mention the damper on our holiday budget - FI is the best man).My concern for you is that hotels may be booked up or WAY expensive for your guests, if they'll allow group rates or room blocks at all.  Many hotels host big NYE parties, and may actually raise their rates for that date.  It also could be *wild* all around you, which would bother me (as a bride), but I'm a stick-in-the-mud anyway.  :)  Then, there's always the pending doom of a snow storm, and how that may affect travel for OOT guests.  With that said, I definitely think it's worth looking into, if it's something you're excited about doing.

I am having a NYE wedding this year and I think it's a FABULOUS idea. The only thing is that I had a hard time finding a place and that was a year ago. I looked in the Portsmouth area and the places were way out of our price range. Although, none of our vendors increased prices because of the holiday, it may be hard to find some of them. We also wanted to do the heavy apps idea but it ended up being more than actually having a sit down dinner. I love the idea and have only gotten great feedback....everyone is really excited! People have been saying the same thing like "everyone is always looking for something fun to do and now we have something:)" Good Luck!!
