Beach Wedding

Any suggestions concerning music for a beach wedding?  Would you use a DJ or or live music?

Re: Beach Wedding

  • Personally, I'd use live.  Just one violinist, maybe.

I'm just imagining a DJ trying to roll his equipment on to the beach and that being a pain for him and possible too loud/obnoxious for the other people on the beach.  Besides, sand is going to get everywhere.

We married on a deck over the ocean and used a violonist.  It just fit with the atmosphere so much better.  More classy and understated.
  • Our Dj used a wireless system for the beach. It was basically just a big ipod dock. We wanted Vitamin string quartet, and didn't have the money for a string quartet.
  • We're using acoustic guitar.
  • We had our ceremony on the beach and had a string quartet.  I paid high school kids who did a fantastic job.  The price of hiring professionals was totally outrageous.
  • is this for the ceremony or the reception?

For the ceremony we used 2 steel pan drums.    For the receptions we had a DJ.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We had an acoustic guitar for the ceremony and cocktail hour, then switched to Ipod for dinner and background music.  We were overlooking the beach.  All of our music was pretty laid back and mellow and we could still hear the ocean too.  Our guitarist walked around while playing too
