What was your very first wedding related purchase?

What was the very first item you purchased for your wedding?  Did it strike you as a "moment" in any way, or stir excitement...or was it just a purchase like any other chore?

We've only made plans, visited venues for the AHR ... we'll begin booking and shopping/purchasing this May and I cannot wait!

judge the non-traditional, pop their happy little wedding balloons... and sleep better tonight for you have made the world a better place.

  • Other than the deposits paid by my fiance and my dress which was a gift from my mom, I just today made my first purchase! I went to thrift stores an got a bunch of vintage cut glass and milk glass vases, some vintage silver platters and some mismatched short candlesticks to make my DIY cake plates with. everything was $0.25 - $2 Im so excited!
  • My Veil,

  • Matches from the knot that say, "J- and J- a perfect match"! It was really early like 16 months and I had to buy something. My mom put the down payment on the venue but then we paid for the photographer.
  • I went to Target and found a ton of wedding related items on clearance.  I bought invitation kids, favor boxes, program paper, placecards, ribbon, a wedding book, etc.

This was back when our color scheme was ivory & black.  Now we're doing brown and green, so I didn't have use for a few of the items.  I ended up selling a few of the things on craigslist.  But it was exciting and fun making my first wedding related purchase.

  • My beautiful parents officially made the first purchase of my dress.  My personal first purchase was the wedding bands followed by DIY save the dates and invites supplies.  All very early as well, but from the PPs, maybe there is no such thing as too early?  Tho now I have to practice patience because I really want to wear that band!
  • Lots of wedding books and magazines! lol, that's actually how I got on here, I bought The Knot planning book first because at the time the internet wasn't hooked up.  I think the first thing we actually paid for was the reception venue.
  • Stationary--it was on sale! We've since put down our deposit on ceremony & reception venue. Flowers... Photographer... Wedding dress. Bridesmaids dresses.

There isn't really much that we haven't paid for! I'm actually surprised to know that other brides-to-be have purchased their dresses more than a year out too. I have been scrutinized up and down for the purchase of my dress. However, I saw the dress a year and a half ago and hadn't gotten it out of my mind. They were discontinuing it and I went to try it on. Turns out they had my size--so, naturally, I couldn't resist :)

  • Oddly enough mine was my dress. When we decided we were getting married we planned to go pick rings, on the day we went to pick out our rings I found a dress I'd been dreaming about for $100 online. I called the store and they said there was only 1 dress in my size left in the 5 states surrounding mine, and it was at the location around the corner from my house. I could walk there. It was destiny :) It was my "moment."  I went and tried it on and no joke, it fits almost perfect, one small neckline alteration (they estimated $30) and I'm done. I love it.

Then the rings and deposit on the hall.

  • My dress. I decided to start shopping early, since I'm very picky I figured it would take several attempts to find the perfect dress. The third dress I tried on was the one!
  • Well I bought a bridal magazine, but I would say my 1st memorable purchase was my Maggie Sottero wedding dress!  I'm in love with it!

  • Mine was actually a wax seal stamp with red wax because my fiance loved it and I think it will be cute. We bought it a year and half out.
Next were the wedding bands. We weren't planning on buying them yet. We actually drove to another state to check out a ring no one here has and liked it but it costed too much. Decided to stop in another store to ask questions and they said they could make the ring I wanted, which no one else has. So we bought that day!
After that was my dress. I got a great deal lon a dress I didn't think I would like or could afford but I love it.
The most recent thing was the venue, which we actually picked out over the summer, but never booked.

[QUOTE]Can't say "my" purchase since my parents are so stubborn and wouldn't let me pay for a single thing.

My parents are the same way! My fiance bought my engagement ring last year when we got engaged, but recently my mom told us she was going to send money to reimburse it! Haha, definitely not necessary, but it makes her happy. Not that I mind not having to pay for things, but I do feel bad about my parents taking all the responsibility. It's what they want to do though!
  • the night after we got engaged: Bridal mags and a planning book, then jars for my candy buffet....i live 4 hours from home-home, so over easter, I got my dress, photog and venue!  So excited!!!!
  • I can't remember if it was this beautiful leaf design hair comb or earrings.
  • My dress.

Deposit for photographer.  (Only because our venue won't let us book until 11 months out.)  Getting ready to FINALLY go dress shopping.  So excited!

FI actually gave me a bridal magazine the day he proposed to give me a clue! The proposal was a day long scavenger hunt, where I had to recall signigicant events from our life together, that ended with him proposing. My actual first purchase was a book where we could keep track of everything wedding related. Then we booked the venue. The third purchase was the dress! The venue got us both really excited about everything!

  • My dress. I knew it was "the one" AND It was only 258 dollars with a  30% off coupon on that, so I figured "what the heck."
