If you're on birth control, you can skip your period by starting a new pack instead of taking the inactive pills.  Perfectly safe and works like magic!

I'm on the pill, so my cycle's incredibly predictable. I started my period 2 days into the actual honeymoon (4 days after the wedding). Quite a few people told me to skip it, but then others told me that there was a possibility that I'd still having heavy spotting (Not exactly "sexy", imo), between this and DH's concerns that it might mess other things up, I decided to suck it up and go with the devil I knew.

Some couples are ok having sex during that time of the month, but personally, I couldn't feel any less attractive at that time (Which really is a mood killer for both of us). But since we knew exactly when to expect it, we just made it a point to have a ton of sex in the brief time between the wedding night and the day it was set to arrive.

Biggest thing I would recommend is Pamprin (The one that treats "irritability"... I think it's the blue box) and those ThermaCare heating pads. Those things keep me as comfortable as I'm going to get during that time.

  • I can't take BC either, and was afraid I'd have my period on my wedding day. It looks okay so far (my wedding is on Sunday) but I have spotting off and on for the last half of my cycle leading up to my period (seriously, my body SUCKS). My plan is:
    - I bought a dress that is easy to hitch up in the bathroom. I've heard of dresses where the bride has to have her BMs lift it up for her to pee. That's so not cool!
    - I use a menstrual cup which holds more than tampons. Seriously they are awesome. I recommend lunette or keeper, but diva cup isn't good for me.
    - Panty liners if you are actually on your period.
    - Lots of advil/naproxen!
    - I will probably drink some water with lemon for bloating since I'll be PMS-y soon...
    - For honeymoon, if you're concerned about sex... um, not much you can do. You can still have sex, at least on light flow days, if hubby doesn't care.
  • I'm on the pill so I know when my cycle should start just like pp mentioned. I haven't done the math yet to see if I'll be getting it at any point during the wedding or HM but if I see that it'll be coming up I'll just skip the placebo pills and start a new pack which will skip my period.

If you're not on the pill.. I agree with pp's.. just do it anyway. He's your new husband.. it's your wedding night.. it's your HM how could you not want to? Don't let it ruin your HM!

    Crime scene sex!

My period ran long and apparently aunt Flow was still in town on my wedding day.  I didn't notice until I got home and changed clothes.  It was no big deal.  If it had been the first day of my period, that would have been sucky.  But you don't have to have sex on your wedding night.  A lot of couples are too tired or sweaty and stinky after being in formal clothes all day.
  • That would soooo suck, and I am so hoping it won't happen.  I'll have to try the birth control thing.

I would wait aunt flo was gone to have sex.  I wouldn't want to remember our "first" time as a married couple as a bloody mess.

  • I don't know what to say if you can't take BC... That sucks. Mine's supposed to fall on our wedding night, but I'm on the pill so it won't be a problem. Just curious... Why can't you take it?

BTW, I sent you a PM a couple weeks ago after reading one of your posts. Don't worry, it's a nice one. I thought about leaving you a message on that thread, but didn't figure you'd be back to check that thread, because people were being jerky to you.

  • Just don't pull a sister in Sixteen Candles and get high off painkillers.  :)

That being said, I don't really have uncomfortable periods.  I would just have supplies on hand including portable heating pad, Pamprin, and chocolate for the day of.  It won't be the worst thing that can happen!

This wasn't directed at me, but some people can't take it because of blood clotting disorders, if they have problem with pain during sex (the pill is related to this!!!) and causing mood disturbances. It basically makes me be PMS-y all month and killed my libido, I'll never take it again. Although now that I'm risking my period this Sunday for my wedding, I'm regretting it, lol.

Wow... I didn't think it could mess up your moods off your period.  I started taking the pill because my mood swings were so bad during my period.  I'd litterally go from balling to happy little miss sunshine in seconds, and EVERYONE knew when I got mine (because of my changing moods) so they'd all keep a large distance, including my now FI.  It was tiptoes around me cause you never knew when I'd snap into a bad mood.  Sex on your pd isnt that great.  In the shower it isn't too bad because you dont have to worry about the mess, but if you have cramps, then I'd suggest not to because it will hurt more than normal.
  • lol. yea were considering the whole shower bit! I cant take BC for those who are wondering.. because of my migraines, and I have Tourettes, and nerve problems in my brain. I tried the pill once and I had killer migraines everytime I popped a pill. My periods were whacked. And im also on Topamax, which is a seizure medication. FI and I talked and if its there all well. We will wait till it goes away to have fun ;)

CourtneyBC- I got your message and i thought i replied.. lol. Ill go check again!

I can't take the pill because of migraines too.  One time I had to be admitted to the hospital for a migraine that lasted 3 weeks.  All I could do was curl up in a ball in my bed with the covers over my head due to light sensitivity and cry because my head hurt so bad.  In the hospital all they did was give me meds to knock me out for about three days, since the third day was when I woke up and my head wasn't as bad anymore.  I stopped taking the pill right after that.  I still get migraines but they never last more than a day or two and I have never had one that bad again.  Thank God.

According to my calendar I will have my period right around my wedding day.  It's going to suck, but we will just have to deal with it.

Have you thought about an IUD?  I had one and I loved it!  No side effects except that after three months my period stopped completely!  It was awesome.  I'm getting another one in August.

  • How accurate is it to chart your periods out for over a year?  I'm just curious to see when mine might fall.  My FI and I are waiting until marriage to have sex (there was this one time...but other than that waiting :) ).  So regardless of how tired and sweaty I am after the wedding, I think somehow I will sum up the energy.  But the period is a different story.  May be a bit traumatic for FI!  Could be a crash course in the joys of a regular sexlife.
  • my mom started her period the day before her wedding to my stepdad.  when she went for her yearly a bit later her dr just said, "why didn't you call me?"  Just call your dr and they might be able to help you out.
