How long did your formal photos take?

I'm trying to figure out a day of timeline and wanted to ask the married ladies how long their posed, family shots took.  We are working against the sunset in November and I'm getting a little concerned that we will be totally crunched for time.  We will be getting the bride/bridesmaid and groom/groomsmen shots out of the way before the ceremony, but will have to take all our family shots after...Thanks!

I think we did around an hour for just parents/ grandparent/ siblings (and there weren't that many). My photographers would have done posed shots the entire reception if I didn't put my foot down and demand I go party  :)Ask your photographer - and if you decide on a set amount of time, let them know that as well.

My daughters wedding was about a 1/2 for formals. I really think you should dictate what you want to your photographer. I would put a list together of what you would like to have taken and ask the photographer what his best estimatte is for time. That way you can prioritize which photos are most important in case you are losing light.

My FSIL took about an hour and 45 minutes, but she had huge amounts of family doing posed pictures, and the other guests were occupied with cocktail time. (The best man thoughtfully brought cocktail time to us, with a cooler and plastic champagne flutes.)

For just family shots, I think it'd only take about a half hour total, and that may even be more time than you need. It took us about an hour to do ALL our pictures.
