Is it too early to plan for an August 2013 wedding?

Hi ladies!!! Just don't know if its too early to book a Venue for an August 2013 wedding! When do you usually start doing these things?

Re: Is it too early to plan for an August 2013 wedding?

  • I will have been engaged 16 months by the time we get married. We booked the venue right away since it's very popular and fills up fast. I also booked my photographer, DJ and florist right away since I knew who I wanted to work with and wanted to guarantee the date. Other then that, we waited until about a year out to start booking everything else and to go dress shopping.

If you are getting married in a big city where things book up far in advance then by all means start looking for venues and get your date secured. But things like the dress can wait for awhile.

  • I got married in August 2010.  We booked our venues in March 2009.  We got the last available Saturday at our reception venue for August - but we also picked a pretty popular venue.  So I don't think it's too early to start looking, as long as you are fairly confident that your budget will not change drastically between now and the wedding.

  • I don't know where you will be looking, but that is within 'wedding season' and if you are going to be in Boston or New England, places will book fast. Never hurts to get that out of the way.
  • Thanks for all the Info ladies!!! We are going to be in Boston(north of Boston actually) We have talked about budget and we both know what we want for details! So I figure we can book the Venue and let the rest fall into place from there!

    Appreciate all your help!
  • I would call around to see how fast things book up in your area and go from there.
  • Plus the ladies on your wedding month board may be very helpful, I would check out the posts there as well
  • Just do not settle or feel pressured by the sales person. You would not want to change your mind later and be stuck!
  • I have already started planning my October 2013 Wedding. Its going to be mostly DIY, so if it's something that can be done this far in advance, I'm doing it. Another friend of mine is getting married shortly before then, and I know theres will be a 3 month period where I won't be able to get anything done, bc of helping her. It also is allowing me to keep an eye out for steals and ideas to incorporate. I already booked my venue, but I am unsure of when to send the StD/Invites out with it being such a long engagement.

  • It really all depends where you are getting married and where you want the festivities to take place.  If it is a big city you may want to start booking the ceremony and reception venue now to hold it.  We didn't need any deposit for the church and only 1,000 to hold the venue.  If it is popular it may and will get booked up quickly!

For my FI and I we got engaged in January and knew we wanted a summer wedding and 5 months would not be enough time for me to plan the wedding to my liking so we decided to wait until the following summer.  That gave us time to enjoy our engagement before it started getting crazy with all the wedding planning.

I really think it was nice and a good thing for us to have some time to just enjoy our engagement and not think about all the wedding madness, when people asked when we were getting married we would just say sometime in the summer of 2012.

We started our actaul planning in about August of 2011 and started meeting with vendors and getting the dress and colors and everything in September.

This was also because we were moving out of state and wanted to get things booked quickly.  Also, for me things tend to weigh kind of heavy if I haven;t taken care of them so within the first 2 months of planning we got my dress, picked out the BM dresses, wedding colors, boked the church, picked the officiant, met with the florist and put down a deposit, picked out the hair salon and put down a deposit, picked the venue and put down a deposit.

It really depends how organized you are and how sure you are of your plans, to me the longer out I would have started would just seem like more time to change my mind!

    best of luck
