6 months out.

So we're just short of 6 months out from our wedding. I have the man of my dreams and a dress. Haven't booked a venue, caterer of photographer. And I'm not stressed. I've looked at quite a few venues. Going to decide asap on that I thought I had everything nailed down. And then didn't like how much it was all going to cost. Do you guys find that weeknight weddings get less attendance? I guess I'm just getting nervous about the weeknight idea. Was going for a ThursdayI like the cost associated with that a little more. I know the family from out of town will be here regardless and most of our friends are local. Shouldn't be too big of a deal right?

Re: 6 months out.

  • If I were invited to a Thursday night wedding I would probably only go if the couple was very close family or friends.  Other then that I would decline.  H and I hardly ever go out during the week because by the time we get off work (5 or 6pm), get home (6 or 6:30pm), eat dinner (7ishpm) and clean up the mess from dinner (8pm) we are ready for bed because then we have to get up at 6am the next morning to do it all over again.

If you do decide to do a mid-week wedding be prepared for a low attendance and be prepared for a shorter then what you might want reception.  Have you thought about having a Friday night wedding?  More people tend to go to these then mid-week because they do not have work the next day, but it still may be difficult for some people to leave work early to attend.  What about a Sunday early afternoon wedding?  These are typically less expensive then a Saturday night affair.

  • One of my relatives got married on a Thursday.  It was nice and most of the family was there.  However, it wasn't very fun.  Most people had to work the next day, so there wasn't much drinking/dancing (not that drinking is required at a wedding - I just mention it because drinking and dancing usually seem to go hand in hand).  And a lot of people left early.

I wouldn't count on out of town family being there for sure.  You are basically asking people to take 2 or possibly, 3 days off of work for your wedding (depending on where they are traveling from).    You would have to be my sister or brother for me to even consider doing that.

Unless I was in the wedding party, I would only attend a Thursday wedding if the ceremony was no earlier than 6:30 or 7:00pm, and I'm sure I'd leave by 10 so I could get home for work the next day.
  • Agree with PPs.  I really only see myself going to a Thursday evening wedding under three scenarios: it's a destination wedding and I'm on vacation; you are my sibling or absolute best friend; it's local and a very casual open house type of thing.

I agree that Friday night or Sunday would be better options - they at least feel less burdensome than Thursday night.  You should check with your VIPs and see what their preferences are.

  • I'd also consider a Friday or Sunday. If i attended a Thurs. wedding, I'd be so worried about being tired for work the next day. I just don't think i'd be able to relax and enjoy it.

Also, It depends on your area but I'm in Southern California and there's no way my guests would make the drive in weekday traffic.
  • Thanks everybody! I'm going to reconsider the Friday option. I know pretty much what OOT family will and won't come and the ones who have said they'll come don't care what night it falls on. One of the PP's said something about it not being as fun...that's one of my concerns.. I want people to be able to let loose and have fun. And I'm afraid that'd be difficult with work the next day. Thanks everyone for the feedback... :)

I find it really inconvinient to go to an out of town wedding on fridays let alone.  having to take off work costs even more money.    if it was in town it would be much easier but still a pain.
