Is there anyone who is going or has already been to

The Atlantis resort in the Bahamas? That is where we will be going on our honeymoon and I'm hearing mix things about it and I'm also having the hardest time booking it! They have honeymoon packages but not sure if they are really worth it! Anyone have any imput?

Re: Is there anyone who is going or has already been to

  • I have wanted to go but I have also heard that the cost is incredibly high compared to what you get.  A lot of people I know have stayed at another resort close by and then just visited the Atlantis resort if they wanted to go to the water park area, etc.

  • Maggie - love your new pic!
  • Thanks cwag!  I figured it was time for a change :)

  • I have never been to Atlantis, but I can share a story told to me by my cousin and her H.  I had always wanted to go to Atlantis, but after this story, I changed my mind.

Cousin and her H had vacationed there a few years ago.  They are avid travelers and have been all around the world.  I have never heard them speak as poorly of a resort/destination than they did of Atlantis.  On one of the first nights they were there, a fight broke out between guests at a resort bar.  A beer bottle was broken and a guest was cut/bleeding.  Apparently there was a decent amount of blood on the floor.  Several nights later, my cousin and her H stopped at the same bar again.  The glass and blood were still on the floor.

This could've been a one in a million occurrence there, but it's still enough to deter me from going to Atlantis.

In regards to the fight, yes that could happen anywhere and wouldn't deter me, but for the fact that after a few nights the blood and broken glass was still present on the floor, that would make me want to pack my bags and head back home.  If they are that lackadaisical about cleaning up blood on a restaurant/bar floor then that makes me question their other housekeeping/cleaning habits.

<div>I stayed a resort close to Atlantis, we did day trips over. I loved the casino, but wasn't impressed with the food. I didn't go inside the hotel rooms so I have no input about those. </div>

  • I went there 5 or so years ago. It is a great place, very fun and clean from what I saw. They also have a casino. I liked all the pools and water slides.

BUT the food and drink prices are OUTRAGEOUS! I think you would be better off in the long run going to an all-inclusive in the Bahamas where your food, drinks, and entertainment are built into the price.

A burger and fries there was $22. Eek.
  • I went there during a day trip from a cruise. It was gorgeous, of course, and the water activities were really fun. I would want try staying there for a longer trip.

Thank you everyone so much! I do know that things there can be pretty expensive but didn't know if I stayed at another resort I could get into the atlantis for the waterparks and such! That is definitely something I will look into as well.

We went there a couple of years ago. The rooms are really nice. Overall the place was really nice and clean. We really ahd a ton of fun at the waterpark, but we did go in march, which I'm told is less busy for them, and I've heard it kind be pretty crazy and packed with kids during their busy season. They had a package when we booked that included food but once we got there we realized it wasn't really the best deal and we still had to pay for all of our drinks. So overall, we had a lot of fun but it was kind of expensive. ETA: a friend recently stayed at a nearby resort and bought day passes to the waterpark. If I went there again, that's probably what I would do if they still do day passes to the waterpark
  • Our travel agent said it's not a great place for honeymooners. She said there are kids everywhere and it's not something she even wanted us to consider.

  • I'm sure during their busy season it is pretty packed with kids but we are going during their "off season" We are going in Oct so I'm sure there may be some but I don't think it would be as packed as it would be during summer and school breaks.
