So I'm not in the mood... and other issues!

So I just found out the hard and depressing way that I'm allergic to my engagement ring... the metal that is... And now I am looking forward to another ring... I truly believe that Macy's and Kay's is not the place where I want to go and I just looked and saw that K-Mart (as crazy as it sounds) has very pretty and affordable options.... Ladies any suggestions... oh yeah and what do you all use as motivation to lose thigh fat i.e. walking early in the morning...??!!

  • What metal is it that you are allergic to?

Unfortunately you can't lose weight in one particular area.  The onlly way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you eat.  The easiest way to do this is to cut your portion sizes slightly, and add little bits of exercise during your day.  Taking an early morning walk is great if that's what works for you!  You can try taking the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator, parking further away, etc.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: So I'm not in the mood... and other issues! : But you can TONE certain areas.

</div><div>OP didn't ask about toning, she asked about "losing thigh fat."  The only way to lose thigh fat is to lose overall body fat.  I've found the best way to do that is by doing cardio -- walking, running, biking, elliptical, whatever floats your boat.  As long as you keep it relatively low-key (don't do sprints or intervals) you're not likely to bulk up too much.  A few weeks of this and your jeans should feel a little bit looser.  Exercise along with a lower calorie intake leads to overall weight loss.

  • I have no advice for you when it comes to the ring....sorry.

But with the motivation concern, I'd suggest downloading a ton of really great workout songs and hit the gym. It works for me. I need to loose some fat as well with my wedding 6 months away. I've got to go to the gym wayyyyy more than I am right now.

  • If there's a space under your ring (ie an opening our cut out area) where moisture can get trapped, it can cause painful, itchy reactions (old timers call is housewife's hand). I had it with my first e-ring and wedding band, and had to ditch them both... Solid rings don't have the same problem, so this time I made sure that there were no openings on the underside of the ring, and haven't had any problems!

As for the thigh thing ... while you can't spot reduce, you can work on overall toning. The best/most effective thing I've seen for this is Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30. Week three is the best, and both myself and a friend noticed that our pants legs were looser after this one. I noticed overall inches lost, and she commented specifically on her thighs.

[QUOTE]<strong>Try Bluenile.com</strong> if you'd be willing to order online.  Also look into Overstock.com My motivation to lose fat anywhere is that working out makes me happier and feel better in general.  My end goal is not to lose the fat so much as it is to be a happier healthier person.  Losing weight is just a fun bonus.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: So I'm not in the mood... and other issues! : Wow, Avion, did someone sprlnkle crabby powder in your coffee this morning?  Talking down to people like that isn't normally you.  Believe it or not, I'm not actually a super-slow 4th grader, but thanks for responding as if I were.  Toning muscle in your thigh does, in fact, shrink the overall circumference unless you're already very toned, in which case yes the muscle builds upon itself.  So, assuming OP is discussing "flabby" thighs as opposed to the her concetrated thigh BMI, chances are good that toning will in fact help her with "thigh fat".  Also, because most leg toning exercises have more cardio naturally involved (dance-based, for instance), you do in fact lower the fat in that area more effective than say your abs.

</div><div>Sorry Stage, I am kind of crabby today.  H had knee surgery a few days ago and can't go anywhere or do anything, and I think we're both developing major cabin fever.  Didn't mean to talk to you like a 4th grader.   I have been trying to do something about my own "thigh fat" for two decades...and, while I have muscular thighs, I still have quite a bit of flab.  Losing weight in my whole body is the only thing that has decreased the flabbiness.</div>

  • Well, actually...."toning" the muscle is simply what happens when the muscle gets bigger and you lose the fat over it, making it more visible and defined.

it's actually possible to make an area appear larger by working the muscle, because if you make the muscle stronger and larger, and you don't lose the fat, well, it's going to be bigger in general.  You have to make the muscle stronger to make it more defined, and when muscles get stronger, they get larger.

And doing sprints and intervals won't "bulk up" the average woman, FYI.  Neither will lifting weights.  Especially if it's combined with a sensible diet and cardio.
