NWR: Have you ever been "pied"?

I was thinking about the whole "tradition" of smashing cake into your partners face as you cut the cake (im not sure I want that but thats another story) and I thought back to when I got a pie in the face at a Mexican restaurant my friends took me to to celebrate my birthday (if you/someone else tell them its your birthday..... the waiter will come around to you and give you the "gift"!) Lol it was funny but a bit embarassing haha.

So have you ever gotten a pie in the face?

Re: NWR: Have you ever been "pied"?

  • FI and I agreed that woulnd't be happening at our wedding; some people like it, both of us would not lol.

  • No pie in the face.

H and I agreed no cake in the face at our wedding.  He still took a little bit of icing and put it on my nose.  I guess that was better than smashing a whole piece of cake in my face, though.

One of my cousins, who is a photographer, said he was at a wedding one time and the bride and groom had agreed no cake in the face.  The bride apparently thought it would be funny to do cake in the face so she smashed a big piece of cake in the grooms face.  The groom got so mad that he punched the bride right there, in front of everyone.

OMG! That would have been the end of my marriage.

Never heard of the pie in the face thing.

Woooow!  He would've gotten punched back.

I'm trying to get FI to agree no cake in the face, but he says he'll have to wait and see...doesn't sound too promising.

  • No. H and I also agreed on no cake smashing. It's just not pretty. A litte on the nose can be cute, but that's about it.

Well that ruins the mood, doesn't it?
  • Lol I wasn't talking about whether you did the cake smash, I was talking about in general life have you gotten pied. But whatever.

I don't know if I would want to do it but some of you make it sound like its murder or something lol... it's just icing. It's not something worth getting mad at your SO about in my opinion anyway. I understand about the hair, makeup, etc., we're girls and we like to look good all the time, and the wedding is like the epitome of that. But it's not like worth considering divorce over or punching someone, lol!

Wow...that dude has quite the temper...and I have to say that despite my disdain for cake smashing, I feel really bad for the bride... I can't believe someone would do that to their bride at the reception!!

My FI and I won't be doing this...because his suit and my dress are way too expensive for oopsies...
  • I have never been pied.

I told H to be good at our wedding, which he was for the most part, it is just that he got a large piece of cake and got some on my nose. I barely got him, guess I should have.

Apparently BIL didn't think I got H good enough so he snuck up behind us, grabbed a piece of cake and smashed a piece on H's hair. The look on everyone's faces was priceless. And our photographer got some good pics as well. That is just the type of family that H is from, doesn't bother me. The only rules was that he couldn't get anything on my dress and he didn't.
  • Anyone know how this even became a tradition at all?  I mean feeding each other can be symbolic and even a little sexy, but smashing food in someone's face seems a little passive-aggressive.  I think its fine if people want to do it, but could create some tension like the punch in the face thing.

And to asnwer the pie in the face thing, never had it happen, but it could be funny as long as I wasn't in very expensive clothes, i.e. a wedding dress.
As my fiance is fond of saying, "Just Relax....."
  • FI is a bit of a clown.  He threatens to "pie" me.  I told him that if he does, he is going to have to reimburse me for the cost of my hair, makeup, and dress.  He didn't think it was such a great idea after all.

  • I was in a show where someone had to get a "pie" in the face, it was actually just a pie tin full of whipped cream because that was easier and cheaper to reset.  Pies in the face don't happen too often in real life.

We didn't have to worry about the cake smash, because we did giant cookies.  We smudged some frosting on each other's noses, but that was it.  I don't know how the cake smash thing evolved, but I think it's beyond stupid.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
