Additional info on threatening Etsy seller...

In Response to Re: Question about Etsy rules:
I think you should tell us the name of the Etsy seller.  He or she deserves some publicity for this *creative* PR strategy.

Here is a screen shot of the email maybe I'm reading it incorrectly?

Re: Additional info on threatening Etsy seller...

  • The Chinese seller thing popped out to me too, aside from the douchy comment about threatening people into leaving positive feedback.  I'd stay away from them.

Yeah, I would be hesitant to buy from a Chinese seller on Esty.

  • I've already made the purchase. So I can't change that. I am going to notify etsy today, but doubt they will do anything. I think the only thing I can do is leave negative feedback. :/
  • I think the poor grammar and Chinese post office, like PP mentioned, is the red flag. As you mentioned, OP, there isn't a lot you can do now. Maybe do a Google search to see if this seller is mentioned on any other wedding websites and leave negative feedback there also?
  • If you paid buy Paypal Immediately report them! Notify them the seller is not holding up there and and you would like your money refunded!

  • Ok. Chinese re-sellers and counterfeiters are extremely common on Etsy. Extremely. And Etsy doesn't remove them because they still receive listing fees from them. It's Etsy's dirty not-so-little-secret. Also, those shops are almost always the ones that show you the prettiest pictures and promise the best things for the cheapest price. All of the onus is on the buyer to make sure you're buying what you want and that the shop delivers it correctly. I always read the feedback people have left and make sure it looks like actually different people left feedback. I generally only buy from people who have only positive feedback.  I also look at where they say they're located and the grammar/syntax of what they write. It sucks, but it's all on you to find people that are going to give you what you want in

Also, I'm with LL, have you received your goods in the correct period of time? There's no use leaving negative feedback if you got everything you wanted within the time promised (looks like 16-25 business days). It does say straight up under the info at the shop page to contact the seller if there is an issue, which in a way is a good thing.

Also, Paypal is notoriously hard to deal with about certain things, especially if you haven't received the goods and are still within the time frame the seller has given you, even more so if your seller is overseas. I know that some people may think that the site Regretsy is mean, but the contributors and the editor of the site have done a lot to bring to light some of the stuff that goes on at Etsy, especially with these types of sellers. I hate you feel you had a bad experience, I've ordered many things of Etsy that I love, but you just have to remember that no matter what the site looks like or tells you, it isn't some giant flea market of all handmade or vintage goods. It's a marketplace where there are going to be some people trying to get over on you.
In Response to Re: Additional info on threatening Etsy seller... : Sure, sometimes there will be good sellers, but the risk of getting screwed over by a foreign seller is much higher.

Only Chinese foreign sellers or others?

I ordered something from a Chinese seller for Christmas.  It arrived beautiful and I was very happy with my purchase.  I've also ordered from a woman in Israel and that order was also lovely.

I'm glad I'm more aware now and will read more about the sellers and their feedback.  Oddly, I work with so many Chinese people so I read right over the incorrect grammar - I'm so used to it.
  • Yeah, anytime you buy something that has to be shipped that isn't from a larger company with a corporate policy, you could get screwed, or not. I think it's just that the way Etsy presents itself a lot of people end up with cut-rate things because there's really no larger backing to get money back or make sure you're getting what you want, especially when the person you're buying from is overseas or in a market that doesn't have a lot of laws for cyber crime, as LL said.

I know that when I go on Etsy, and why a lot of people do, they want to buy things that are unique and also buy things that help the artist who is making them and support handmade crafts and maybe not be buying something that could have been made using child labor or sweatshops. And you (the proverbial you) feel like by ordering off this website that has all of those things as sort of goals by how it's laid out, that you're supporting people buying things that are more ethical or handmade or sourced. And then you (proverbial again) discover that what you bought you could've gotten off of Ali Baba for cheaper and it was probably still made in less than ideal conditions and might contain the things you were trying to avoid. This hasn't happened to me, but I can see how some people might get really turned off by it.

I woudn't by from anyone so abruptly rude...If you buy from Etsy or places like Ebay check the number of trasactions a seller has had, what they are rated, and read the comments. Any extra fees are not true and that is a scam. My Fi's mom sell's some of her stuff on Etsy and Ebay and I have never seen those extra fees like that seller is talking about.
  • Ah, this is the automatic email that goes out to buyers. In your OP I thought the seller was talking specifically to you. Using feedback like that is highly frowned upon on Etsy. I agree with the others--wait it out and see if you get your order but in the future, check shop policies before you buy for disclaimers like this and stay away. You can check the blog Callin Out On Etsy for reports of sketchy sellers.

I've ordered things from Chinese sellers in Etsy before. I've always gotten my goods but it takes a really long time. It took me a month and a half to recieve two necklaces. Both are nice and of the $3 quality I paid for them. If what you ordered doesn't come within 25 days then yes, I would leave negative feedback.

  • Ok, I just went to the seller's page.  Really?  This is OBVIOUSLY a reseller.

How would they be hand making any of this stuff?  http://www.etsy.com/listing/88268543/hogwarts-college-dumbledores-army-black

Before you buy anything on Etsy, especially from China, Hong Kong, Thailand, etc, ask yourself how anyone would even make the item.  It should say how it is made in the description anyway.  This is the kind of crap that really cheapens Etsy and ruins it for everyone and people who continue to buy from them just keep them in business and on Etsy.
Did you buy before or after seeing that information?
    Posted by LingerLonger1
After. I also was using my iPhone app to make the purchase so I didn't even notice it was from China.

I made the purchase then got the email telling me it came from China and I'm not allowed to leave negative feedback.
  • Screw that.  If they give you reason to leave negative feedback, do it.

I've reported the shop to Etsy as a reseller.  They usually don't do anything about it, but maybe if more people report the shop, they will take it down.

  • Wait, so you just saw a pretty picture and bought it without investigating/reading anything?

When I go to the Sellers page & look at it (as I would if I was about to buy something)... It is hit you over the head shady.

But just wait the 25 days or so. You might be freaking out for nothing.

</div><div>Yup. If I wanted a 3 dollar necklace that's made possibly in less than ideal working conditions and has no real value, I'd just hop down to Forever 21, I wouldn't wait 25 days for it. I'm not saying 3 dollar necklaces are all necessarily wrong things to have, but if I'm on Etsy and paying shipping, it's because I want something unique and handmade or vintage, not the same things I can get at the mall. </div>

  • I don't think this is a Regretsy thing.  Regretsy is for weird stuff like penis pouches and vagina necklaces.  This isn't weird so much as it is a shady seller.  I already sent it to Calling Out on Etsy, which is more relevant to this topic.

  • Aaaaaand today's Regretsy:

    Buy Handmade!

But seriously, store like this stay open on Etsy because people keep buying from them because it's there and it's super-cheap. I'm no snob, I spent an hour looking at wedding jewelry with my friend for her to wear at her wedding in Charming Charlie (chain, tons of cheap but pretty jewelry), but if you're looking for something genuinely unique, make sure you check out your seller.
