Why don't vendors post prices?????

So few vendors post their prices. It is such a pain calling or emailing each one to get the info. One DJ has been emailing me every day since I  inquired. Is this normal or just how it is in NJ? I find having to hunt down how much something is going to be for so many things  a real turn off. Frown

  • I noticed this too. It is annoying to have to call so many places. I think it's because so many people want different things that most places have to customize the package based on what you want. It would be nice if more vendors showed a base price. That way you at least know if that place is even remotely in your price range.

I'm also planning a NJ wedding, and I have noticed the same thing! I agree with the pp about the reasons why vendors do it, though. I do sympathize with you since it can be very time consuming and frustrating playing phone tag with vendors, haha.

    ETA: clarification

[QUOTE]It's because vendors want the chance to discuss your budget and have the opportunity to make a deal with you. If you read a price on their website and it's out of your budget, you'll just move on and never call, when it's possible they might be able to come up with a different deal that works for you.

This exactly. Most vendors set their own prices, so they almost always have some wiggle room with their pricing and packages. H and I got all kinds of discounts and free extras thrown in by most of our vendors because our wedding was on a Thursday, and so we didn't pay anywhere near the "advertised" price. Sure, there are some vendors who will not budge on pricing or who are so upscale that they don't have to work with people on a budget, but most will gladly find a package a couple can afford.

    Ditto Stage.

Maybe it's me, but I got married in South Jersey and didn't find it all that time consuming to do the research and I lived 1500 miles away.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
