Jewelry question

My dress is a Justin Alexander strapless ivory lace gown with a lace 3/4 in sleeve jacket to match. There is a bit of ruching up top with a sparkly/pearly brooch thing in the middle. I bought some pearly/sparkly drop earrings that are simple and match the dress really nicely. My question is do I need any other jewelry? I think a necklace would have too much going on since I will have the jacket on for the ceremony. Also, I am afraid to wear a bracelet because I don't want it to snag my lace. For the reception, I plan on losing the jacket and veil and so I am not sure if I will look too plain if I am only wearing earrings. Any suggestions?

Re: Jewelry question

  • Wedding jewelry can be tricky, as you don't want to distract attention to the dress and to your face! It sounds like simple and sophisticated with drop earrings would be just fine for the ceremony.  Since you will be "changing" looks for the reception, nothing says you can;t also add an elegent necklace at that time as well if you feel as though you need it!

  • No, I wouldn't wear any other jewelry. The dress and earrings are enough, even without the jacket and veil. You won't look too plain. Even in a more simple dress, you don't need a lot to look elegant and special on your wedding day. :-)

The only suggestion I have is to try on the dress with the earrings, but without the jacket or veil. If you look at your reflection and think "Something's missing" then buy a nice bracelet that you could slip on after the jacket comes off during the reception. But I definitely would NOT even think about a necklace with that appliqué on the bodice of the dress.
  • Well, everyone is going to give you their personal opinion on what THEY would do. Whether that’s the right decision for you or not, who knows. I had a heavily embellished dress with a ruched sweetheart neckline that also had a dangling crystal brooch. I had an elbow length drop veil & at the last minute had to ditch my lace bolero. I wore a necklace, earring, bracelet, crystal headpiece and a cocktail ring. So, you’re just going to have to bring a few options with you to your next fitting and try them on to see. Only you can tell if you will feel it’s too much or too little.

Also, there’s no reason why you can’t put on a necklace for the reception. I was originally only going to wear my headpiece for the reception, but then decided that I liked the way it looked with my veil, so I put it for the ceremony also.
