Has anyone ordered their wedding gown online?

Has anyone ordered their wedding gown online?  They seem to be cheaper online and I have saw a few that I liked.  However, I was wondering if someone has ordered one online, what site they ordered from and if they were satisfied with the dress.  I really want to order one, but am scared to order until I hear how other people's experiences were.

Re: Has anyone ordered their wedding gown online?

  • Lots of brides have done netbride.com.  I would have used them if I had known about them.  I did order my BM' dresses from them and no problems what so ever.  just be careful and that you research the site if you or anyone else has never heard of them.
  • I didn't order my dress online, but I've been working with netbride.com to order my veil, and plan to get my BM dresses there as well, and they are fantastic so far...they respond super quick, and the prices can't be beat.  The veil I want is $80 cheaper, and the BM dresses $50 less than the shop where I got my dress.

  • My only suggestion is make sure you see the dress someplace before ordering - the internet lacks the ability to see all the little details of the dress or even the texture of the material.

  • Thanks everyone for the advice.  I think I might go the online route for my dress, but I would probably have to look at the return policy also.  I think my fear is that I will get it and it does not fit.  For the people who ordered their dresses or bridesmaid dresses online, did you use a local tailor for alterations?

I haven't yet, but plan on ordering from shoprkbridal.com  I want an Alfred Angelo gown and its $200 cheaper there!  They have it for $400 and RK Bridal is an actual store and authorized retailer of Alfred Angelo.

Most bridal stores, whether you're buying online or in person, don't allow returns on dresses so when you're ordering your size, make sure you follow the designer's size chart as closely as possible (typically you should order according to your largest measurement).  Netbride has the size charts on their website.  I ordered my bridesmaids' dresses from them and had a wonderful experience!  They get an A+ :).  Pearl's Place is great also.

Oh, and yes, you will have to use a local seamstress for alterations.

ETA: 99% of brides need alterations.  I don't think I know anyone whose dress fit them perfectly right out of the box.

  • Yes, I went to a local tailor and had them take my measurements.  Make sure you check the size chart of the designer you are ordering from.  I also checked with the designer to make sure the online store I was ordering from is an authorized dealer.
