What type of dress is best for me?

Here I am: short (5'1) heavier (170 lbs.), large chest (36DD), big butt. Small waist. Blonde, blue-green. Hair will be looooong by wedding date. What will look best on me?

rules: no strapless, must be floor length.

I like: ball gowns, colored sash (my colors are fushia and turquiose), tank-top style straps.

budget: $600

Any advice/ideas/links?

I think these dresses would look nice based on the information you gave. some of these you might be able to add a sash or sleeves.

I know you said no strapless but keep in mind....alot of them can have straps added.  David's bridal offers different style cap sleeves and other options.  I love the second one from the last post.

The best way to find out is to go try them on. I found dresses that weren't supposed to look good on me but did. I would recommend you try a variety of styles until you find the one that flatters you most. GL!

Take it from someone with a similar body type...ballgowns are going to make you look like a cupcake and even shorter than you actually are. Also, don't rule any type of dress out. I absolutely did not want strapless and that's what I ended up with. Also, my dress is fit and flare...being curvier I didn't think a "tighter" style of dress would work, but it actually ended up being the exact opposite. The dresses that were more fitted and hugged my curves ended up looking the best.

I have a similar body type and am just 1/2 inch taller than you, and while SOME ballgowns make you look shorter, the ones with a slightly dropped waist won't.  HUGE skirts won't work, but you can still get a full ballgown skirt.

So true. I would definitely recommend trying on a dropped waist.

Look for something A-line with a dropped waist (i swear they work miracles!) Being busty as well, I also would recommend a corset back. It makes for a more true-to you fit, keeps everything extremely snug and under control and you can even get away with not wearing a bra for the first time in your life.

I hope that helps a litte I've found these traits to be universally flattering on curves and used the same criteria to treat myself to a nice Mori Lee BM dress to wear to all the weddings I have to go to this year.

LoL. I'm anal-picky too. I got a feeling that the dress people are going to hate me. Is going to 3 different places to try on dresses too much? My town is mid-size, and there is only 1 place that does wedding dresses here. There's another store in the small town I work in, about 13 miles away. And I want to go to David's Bridal in Indy, and that's an hour away.
