Fallen in love... with an expired dress (vent)

As I look for dresses online, I realize that I've fallen in love with a dress I saw some time ago, Sophia Tolli's Bailey in white and platinum. Unfortunately, it's from 2009 and discontinued. I'm hesitant to buy it online without making sure it looks good on my frame. Here's to hoping that when I try dresses on, one matches up.

Anyone else have this problem? Did it work out?

  • You can always try on a dress from her line that has a similar look and shape to the one you love.  If you think it looks good on you and you haven't found one you love just as much then try to find one online or a used one but make sure it's that designers and not a knock-off.

  • The dress I ended up liking was a sample, it had been discontinued.  The sample was just too big too make it work.  They called the designer and they are still able to make the dress for me.

Soo, I would go to a bridal shop that sells the line, try on somthing similar in shape to see if you like it on you, and just see if they could possibly get that dress made for you.
  • I think dresses are "discontinued" not "expired."  Expired is for when food goes bad, or you can't use a coupon anymore.

Anyway, I would ALWAYS advise people to try on dresses before they buy anything.   Sometimes things look great on a model but don't flatter your figure.  More often, people will completely write off a particular style or color because they think it's not
right for them, then try it on and realize that it's perfect.

Try on dresses similar to the one you like, and try on some that are completely different.  See what you like and what you don't.  If still think the one you've found is right for you, then start looking on pre-owned dress sites like oncewed.com.  You might be able to find someone selling it -- some of these dresses haven't even been worn before.

  • Ditto Avion.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

  • Ditto Avion. I was convinced I wanted a ball gown with a pick up skirt, but I tried on about 5 and ended up hating how they looked on me. Besides, bridal dress shopping is fun. :D
