XP: Can I wear this?

My husband and I are invited to a wedding for a female coworker of his.  I figured I would wear a purple dress I've work to 2 other weddings, being that I hate to shop and it looks good on me.  Then I figured I would wear the strappy silver sandals I wore for my own wedding, which I cought instead of white shoes so that I could get more milage out of them.  I thought I was set...

Then I realized that everything about the invitation is purple, so I'm assuming the bridesmaid dresses are purple.

Can I get away with wearing what I planned to wear, or will I run the risk of looking like a bridesmaid and making the bride mad (I've never met the girl)?  I'd LOVE not to have to spend money on a dress I won't wear often, but I don't want to commit a wedding faux pas.

I'd wear it anyway. FWIW, the last wedding I went to had yellow invitations and blue bridesmaid dresses.

It's fine. As long as you don't show up with a really formal updo and bridesmaid-style jewellery no one will think you're a wannabe BM.

You can definitely wear your purple dress... chances are veryy slim that it'd be the same as the bridesmaids' dresses anyway.

I'd wear it.  Maybe have casual hairstyle & simple jewelry too.
