bridesmaids dresses?

So I know this is crazy early and I haven't even asked my bridesmaids yet, but I was talking to my mom tonight, who is generally pretty level headed, and I was telling her how after being in two weddings with tragic dress choices and not asking for my budget, I was planning on asking for navy and knee length and calling it a day... she thinks this could end up looking crazy mostly saying that the colors won't match, but navy is navy, right?? I just honestly don't feel right about telling grown women how to dress. They're beautiful girls and would look good in anything!

Re: bridesmaids dresses?

  • Not all navy shades are created equal. I agree with mom it is very possible that there will be a color difference especially if the dresses are different fabrics.

  • I would at least choose a designer and color and give them options for style. But that's just me, and honestly most people are agreeable and as long as you keep the price reasonable they probably won't complain!

  • I'm one not to care, but yeah there is a possibility of the dresses not looking coordinated even if they are all "navy".
  • You could be a little more vague and say "dark blue to navy" and solid. My friend was in a wedding where all they had to buy was a short dress in any shade of green that was solid and it looked GORGEOUS. It was super casual but, seriously, one of the greatest ideas I'd ever seen for a casual wedding.
  • Thanks, ladies! I'm not sure what I'll end up doing, since I honestly don't care either way. I might end up with just two bridesmaids, so different might look weird? I also really just don't want to make anyone buy a 'bridesmaids' dress- I've spent too much on dresses "I'm sure you'll wear again!" haha :) The girls have different body types, so I feel like just sending them a dress from Macy's or something wouldn't help either.

...Not like it's something I really need to worry about, it just happened to come up in conversation and I got to thinking :) thanks!
