Rings

I have had the hardest time finding a ring that goes well with my Tiffany set solitaire, I have found that my diamond is set slightly higher thn normal, which i think is the cause of a lot of my problems, I have tried bands and gaurds and wraps to go with it and nothing fits right. I found a diamond band that I thought I liked even though it left a gap between the two rings, i went and purchased it today and I dont like the combination. I think it's my ering I don't like, any suggestions on how to tell my FI with out completely hurting his feelings?? Also, my diamond is inherited from my FI great grandmother, which I think is causing anemosity between his sister and I which I think is another reason for my frustration with my ring. Please help I feel awful saying I don't like it, and I know it's not about the right, but having to wear it the rest of my life, I'd at least like to wear something I like!

Re: Rings

  • Do you REALLY not like your engagement ring? When you got it were you stunned and excited about it? Does it fit your personal style? Is the distaste for the ring coming from the fact that there is animosity with your sister in law to be or the frustration with not being able to find a band to go with it? If you could have chosen your own engagement ring would you have chosen this style or a different style?

It is very important for you to have a ring that YOU like. You will be wearing it the rest of your life. That being said, I think it would ease the pain a little if you just said "Babe, you know what, this ring is really beautiful and I love the fact that your grandmother's diamond is in it, but I am having a really hard time acclimating to the style because, personally, I would have chosen a different style. Would it be ok to consider a different style ring still using your grandmother's beautiful diamond?"

His feelings will probably be a little bit hurt, but guys rebound from these sorts of things rather quickly. I'm sure he won't dwell on it and will still love that his grandmother's diamond will be used.

  • I haven't ever been super in love with my ring, so I do think it is that and not the anemosity from my SIL that it should of been hers... I do love the solitaire setting, I'm not hugely into bling, but I would much prefer a cathedral setting, or a thicker band. It's so dainty right now and makes my finger look fat and swollen around it, like a muffin top on my finger. I have a ring on my right hand that doesn't cause that, so I know it's more of the setting than just my fingers. I think we will have to talk about getting the band changed, I'm definitely going to use your approach!! It sounds as minimally harsh as this ackward conversation can get!!

[QUOTE]My rings are from Tiffany's too. A band from Tiffany's will fit against your e ring nicely, go try on some bands there. While you are there maybe you'll find a setting for your engagement ring too.

I think her rings are tiffany-style, not from Tiffany itself
