Veil length for tea-length dress?

Hey ladies! I know this may be a premature question, but I'm wondering what y'all think abou veil length. I've attached a picture of my dress as it is today (ordered, hasn't come in yet), but I'm planning to shorten it to tea-length.

What length veil do you think looks best with tea-length dresses? I'm debating the birdcage, shoulder and elbow length at this point...

  • I honestly don't think a birdcage veil would look good with your dress.  The one you're wearing in the photo looks good.

I personally do not like birdcage veils. I think a shoulder length one like the one in your pic would work nicely.

  • I like birdcage with the tea length dress. It's a very 1950's look.

Otherwise I'd go with elbow length. Something about shoulder length veils just rubs me the wrong way.
  • I think an birdcage veil would look cute. I personally hate elbow length veils. It really depends on what you like though, everyone is going to have different opinons, you best bet is to try on several different styles and go with what you feel most beautiful in regardless of what others say.

I think something like this would be cute....

  • Assuming you'll have time to order your veil after your dress comes in and gets fitted, I'd try on both the birdcage and more of a shoulder/elbow length veil when you have your dress shortened to tea length and see which look you like better especially when you pull it together with shoes and other accessories.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I think birdcage veils are perfect for tea-length dresses.

Either a bird cage or a veil like the one you have will look really nice. It reminds me of this-

  • Ah! You guys!! This is exactly my dilemma. I should be getting the dress in late July/early August, and I'll be on my way down to NC for my wedding in early October. So I may have time to try on different veils with the dress once it's all ready, but I'm a bit Type-A (read: VERY much so), and would love to have the veil sooner rather than later.

I love the way the birdcage looks because it's so trendy, but I was thinking of that Audrey dress with the shoulder length! And of course, I think elbow length might balance it out a bit more. I don't love the veil they put me in at the store (the one in the pic). Maybe just more width/volume for that length.

    Agreed.

I had trouble finding a birdcage that I liked, though that was what I wanted originally. This is the veil I ended up choosing, with my soon-to-be-tea-length dress (I am having my dress hemmed--tea-length on models hits at my ankles, apparently):

Unique Boutique in Pikeville, KY. I don't have any clue what brand it is or even how much it cost, since it was a gift from my mom. I'm basically useless. I just know it's two-tier and ivory, and was the only one they had that wasn't bedazzled :)
ETA: I also made myself a flower clip for the reception, in case the veil bugs me too much.

  • Just my style! I'll look for a look alike, I really love that look together. I like the fabric around the edge, too. Not too crazy or bedazzled, but I don't love the plain ones (whatever that term is, I'm kinda useless, too).

I have my eye on a headband/headpiece thingy for the reception, too. I doubt I'll make it long after the ceremony and pictures with the veil on.
