Dress alteration nightmare--2 wks before wedding!

I need advice! I ordered a beautiful Alfred Sung silk gown and it has been altered to fit my petite frame but is still not fitting right: it's tight in the back and gaping in the front (strapless sweetheart). So, since I don't think this can really be fixed to fit me perfectly I bought a David's dress that is pretty nice, but not as nice as the original dress. It does, however, fit me really well! What is more important: a perfect fit or a nicer dress that doesn't fit well?FYI--Beware petite brides! It is very difficult to find a well-fitting dress!

  • I'm a petite bride, but I've never heard of that. Do you think maybe the seamstress just didn't get it right?
  • It's definitely more important that you have a dress that fits you properly. And I agree with pp, a seamstress should be able to fox that. If yours can't, look for a new seamstress.

  • Possibly. I think maybe it wasn't the dress for a petite girl to begin with--when the dress came in the neckline came up to my armpits so the seamstress had to take it down and it just never quite sat right--there is a lot of boning and thick fabric that makes it stick out. :(
  • Do you have pictures in both dresses? I guess it would depend on how poorly the prettier one fits so it is hard to say without seeing them.
  • i'm rather petite (sz 2, 5'1"), and i had no problem getting the perfect fit. I think you might want to try another seamstress.
  • I agree with pp.  Don't give up on the first dress.  Get another seamstress who knows what she's doing.  If that fails, then you have the peace of mind to know you have a backup dress.
