wedding and bridesmaid dresses

I had originally bought a tea length ivory organza wedding dress. The bridesmaid dresses are chocolate brown, taffeta, knee length with a boat neck. ( they are not actual bridesmaid dresses but just from target) I decided that the wedding we are planning is too casual for my wedding dress and the groom would be dressed to casual. So I bought a white linen sundress by Adrienne Papell. So do you think that the bridemaids dresses are too dressy for the wedding dress?

Re: wedding and bridesmaid dresses

  • I personally believe that the bride's dress can be as formal or flashy as she wants no matter what, because a bride is supposed to stand out and be a princess on her wedding day.  So I'd suggest sticking with the original wedding dress.  It's tea-length, so that gives it the more informal feel that you may be looking for. That being said, I think you need to do what makes you feel comfortable.  Good luck finding the right combination.

  • I completely agree with Googs. If you love the original dress, wear it, who cares if it's a little more formal. :)

  • I think that a linen sundress would be way too casual next to taffeta BM dresses. I would stick with your original choice. Don't worry about it being a bit more formal than the feel of your wedding ... you and FI should ideally be the best-dressed people there, so it's O.K. if your clothes are a bit fancier than everyone else's. A tea-length dress isn't super-formal, don't worry.

  • Thanks for the input. But the question isn't whether or not I should wear the original dress. I do not want to wear, I have always envisioned wearing a casual sundress on my wedding day. I just wanted to know if I should start looking for different bridesmaid dresses.
  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I get it now. If they are in taffeta, yes, they might be too dressy for the rest of the wedding. Especially if you are wearing a linen dress.
