Anyone wearing David's Bridal V9322?

If you are wearing this dress..or wore it..did you have any issues with alterations? I'm 5'3" and ordered a size 6. When I took it to my regular tailor she told me that b/c she would have to cut so much off the front for the hem that it would interfere with the embroidery on the train when she tapered it back...hence her suggestion that she CUT OFF the embroidered part of the train, adjust it for the hem, then re-sew the embroidered part back on...creating an additional seam on my train that wasn't there to begin with.  Um..no.Anyone else have an issue like this?  I'm going to David's on Sunday to see what they say. I'm thinking if they have to alter it extensively just for the hem then they should have told me to order a petite..not regular size and need to order a new dress.

  • I would take it back and make them order petite.  Have a fit if you have to.  As long as your dress is unworn and clean it shouldn't be a problem.  *crosses fingers for you*

  • I'm having the same kind of issue, not with that exact dress, but another mermaid style from DB. I'm going in to talk to the seamstress on Thursday about it. Thier policy is no returns or exchanges, but still has tags and has only been out of the bag one time. But don't take no for an answer, the sales lady should have ordered you a petite in the first place. If your dress will not look just like it does in the picture then they need to fix the problem. GL!
  • It sounds like it's their fault for not ordering you the petite in the first place. You're supposed to be able to trust a bridal store to order the right size for you, so I would go and argue with them until they get you the different size.Unless of course, a petite wouldn't fit you in other ways..maybe look ah the size charts on their website.

SpringBride...what did they tell you had to be done to your dress?
  • It needs a BIG hem (I'm only 4'11") and it needs to be taken in about 3 sizes. When I first went, the seamstress told me what size to get. I told her I did not feel right getting one so big just to fit at the bust, but she assured me everything will look the same with the beading, lace detail ect.. I tried my dress on and cried because I have lost about 15lbs and now when I pull it, like how she said she would alter it, I loose a big part of the detail and beading. I'm nervous about it, but I am going to a different DB tomorrow to talk to someone else to see if there is anything that can be done.

Thanks everyone for your advice and opinions. I went to a seamstress recommended by the shop where we purchased the bridesmaid dresses last night and she seemed to think the first person I went to didn't know what she was talking about.  My dress is going to be just fine..whew!!
  • generally a gown can be taken in up to two sizes if absolutley necessarry but being im five one and do not even have to have my dress altered although it is a more traditional dress.....i would speak to the store manager and tell them that you need a petite dress...the second question is were you wearing the shoes you were going to wear at ceremony and reception when you went for fitting that is a ver crucial part as well....
