Do you get frustrated...

when you are reading or looking through bridal magazines when all of the dresses they show are super expensive? Seriously, this morning I was flipping through a local issues of a national magazine and the cheapest gown I saw is over $4k! When you read these boards, most brides have Maggie Sottero, Casablanca, etc. I ordered a Justin Alexander Couture and it was well below what I'm seeing in magazines. Is it me? I just don't get why they all have to be pushing the Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera. I mean, they are beautiful, but what about us every day brides?

Re: Do you get frustrated...

  • Yep. Very frustrating. Love Justin Alexander's couture line.  Which one did you get?
  • This is exactly why I didn't look through those magazines.
  • Yeah the prices are rediculous! I ended have an awesome replica of a Maggie made for me at a local salon, it's gorgeous! I didn't even want to pay Maggie prices, I paid a 1/2 of what most of them cost and am very pleased with it.
  • Totally agree!  They're pretty and all, but it's one day I don't want to take out a loan just for my dress!
  • i fell in love with my alfred angelo dress. my mom bought mine so i wanted to keep the price low... after tax and paying 65 to have it 3 inches shorter... 750 bucks...
  • I love dresses, so I've been flipping those mags for inspiration. In real life, I've been stalking preownedweddingdresses.com and oncewed.com and I'm very optimistic that one day I could find my dream 'used' dress that I would resell after the wedding!
  • Bridal magazines basically sell space to the highest bidding company. Naturally the major designer labels like Vera Wang, Kenneth Pool, etc. are going to offer more money for more coverage.  All of this in hopes of luring brides into thinking that spending an obscene amount of money on a dress is completely ordinary and rational. So you know,  a lot of these designers are starting to have problems making a sale in this economy, becuase a lot of brides simply cannot justify spending two to three months worth of salary on a dress they only wear once.  That is one of the reasons why some of the major designers are starting to try to branch out and create lower cost lines.  Vera Wang is actually looking to put out a more reasonable line, and pretty much all the designers I have looked into are doing a lower cost "destination" line in order to lure brides who have lower budgets.
  • I also went with alfred angelo and the dress is soooo beautiful.  It makes me feel just like the model that is on the website (alfredangelo.com style no.2020)!!! For about a thousand it was at the brink of my budget but I felt that I got what I paid for and more... and it didn't totally break my bank... I just did two payments to make it a little easier to swallow.  Good luck and remember... once you find it, the dress will be YOURS and it will be your favorite no matter what you paid for it.  My advice is just take your time.
  • Make me the third to fall in love with Alfred Angelo dresses...  I get to go try on my dream dress tomorrow -- and the price according to the website is probably only around the $600 range.  I'm not planning on spending $4,000 on anything other than the reception/catering/cake. =]
  • yeah... i have to say alfred angelo has beautiful affordable dresses and the quality (of the ones i triedo n at least) were exceptional!
