Dress Regrets?

Hello all! I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problem! I was debating on getting the Maggie Sottero Mona Lisa and the Victoriana. The bridal shop only had the Mona Lisa dress to try on, and I felt uncomfortable ordering something I wasn't able to actually see, other than in pictures. I know it's too late now (my wedding is only 2 weeks away!) but I still have regrets! Let me know your thoughts or if you have/had the same issue!! Thank You!

Re: Dress Regrets?

  • I felt the same thing. I got my dress 10 months before the wedding and started regretting spending 550 dollars on the dress but I knew I had to live with it. The day of the wedding when I was all done up and put together, I couldn't have been happier. I loved my dress and glad I chose it. Some of it is a choice. The day is so much more than a dress! GL!

  • Nope.  Not really anyway.  I just stopped looking at dresses, and when I saw some that were pretty, made sure to tell myself that mine was better. lol  Oh, the little white lies we tell ourselves!
  • When I was first looking at gowns (admittedly, even before we were engaged--stealthily, of course), I fell in love with the picture of the LaSposa for Pronovias "Melodia." The beading, the lace, the shape-- it just made me swoon. Shortly after I was engaged, I was lucky enough to find the gown in my size online, worn once, and bought it instantly. It fit like a glove and looked great, but I wasn't in love (and kept trying to convince myself I was). I tried to convince myself that not everyone has that "Say Yes to the Dress" weeping reaction when they see themselves in the perfect gown. The reality is that it just wasn't the perfect gown-- for me. I had it for three months before I finaly knew that I wanted something different. While the lace and beading was delicate and lovely (and everyone ooh-ed and aah-ed over it), it didn't feel like me. I needed something different for our day, and I found it when I purchased my Pronovias Harlem. Now, I have a lovely Melodia that I'm trying hard to sell for a song (PIB, I'm sure it's right for another bride) and MY perfect dress on order. I am a two dress bride. I didn't want to be, but it just happened!

  • Hello All:I purchased Maggie Sottero Mona Lisa from Alexandra Boutique in forest hills, NY, just last month. They do have the samples of the Mona Lisa and the Victoriana plus samples other companies. I hope that helps you. Good luck!
  • I am having some major dress regrets.. It makes me feel sad and icky to even type those words. I had originally purchased a dress in NewBrunswick before I moved away. My mom, aunt and grammie all came with me and we picked out this gorgeous perfect dress that I just felt so beautiful in. Anyway we paid for the dress and ordered it in my size. 5 months later after I had moved away to British Columbia my mom went to the shop to go see if the dress was in yet as they still hadn't called her. And when she got there there was a sign in the window saying "closed for financial reasons". There was no way to get ahold of anyone. The dress was lost :( Luckily I had ordered that dress well in advance..and there was still 6 months till my wedding. But I knew I would have to get something right away so that there would be time for alterations when it came in. So I went to a dress shop in my new town. I had to go alone since I didn't know anyone here. It sucked to pick out a dress by myself. I pretty much picked the first thing that looked ok cause I knew I didn't have much time and I didn't want to go through the dress shopping alone thing again. So I ordered this one dress that was defiantly a little too snug on me. I thought its ok I will lose the weight before the wedding. Well I havn't lost any weight. I just went for a fitting and the dress was still too tight. They let out as much as they could but there was not much to let out. I can put the dress on and everything but it is just not the right cut for my body type plain and simple. I am pear shaped and this dress really accentuates the hips. My advice to anyone who has not yet purchased a dress - Get something that flatters you right then and there. Don't get something that you think will look great when you lose a few pounds etc... Planning a wedding is stressful enough. You don't need the extra stress of worrying about looking terrible in your dress.
  • I have serious regrets.  I didn't look around online before I got my dress so I kinda thought my only options were David's bridal or the $5000/dress boutique in town.  I went to David's and bought the one I liked most.  It's a very pretty dress and it looked good on me so I figured it was good enough.  I'm not a dress kind of girl anyway.  Then I was looking for a designer for someone on here and stumbled across a Mori Lee that I LOVED.  I found out that not only was it in my price range but there is a store that sells them about an hour from my house.  I was really upset but I don't have time now to order one or money to buy one even used.
  • Yes! (see my post reading: Did anyone purchase a backup dress?)  I have not purchased a "back up dress" but I purchased a dress that will only satisfy my wedding party in case I will not find one that makes me happy.  I'm sad that I did that because I still have plenty of time to still search, but I have definitely blown the budget buy purchasing a dress!
  • I'm a two dress bride, I started doubting my first pick and then when I was searching for a seamstress to alter my dress after i had lost 15 pounds, I stumbled across a replica in her store that she said she could make for me brand new to fit me! I tried it on and that was the end.....I ordered it and it just came in and I love it. So now I'm a two dress bride....no more trying on dresses for me! But my doubts were correct, this dress looks way better on me!
