Help!! I can't decide on a Gown :( Any pictures of Maggie Sottero's "Selma"

tried Maggie Sottero's Selma on this afternoon and really really loved it, butttt it was five sizes to big for me, so I was completely swimming in the fabric. And, the color really threw me off. It comes in Antique Silver and Diamond White. Now, the model in the pictures is certainly wearing silver, and the tag on the dress I tried said it was the silver, but they look so different! And I don't want to wear a silver dress. I really just want to see the dress on someone else, I honestly don't like the way it looks on the model, but loved it when I was wearing it. I am so confused right now, and I know this is such an important decision! But the stores have told me it'll take 9 months to get a dress, so I definitely need to decide within a week!!! I would love love love it if anyone could find me pictures of this gown on real brides, In white would be helpful but I'll take anything!!! PS. This link is to a board I made with pictures of me in the dress, and the model in case it helps!!! http://s806.photobucket.com/albums/yy342/mehallwedding/?action=view&current=mosaicfdfed346bc457f7f7b5399712ecbf.jpg

  • Your link isn't working for me.The dress will look much different on you when it is altered to your size, so don't base your decision on what it looks like on you now.Can you try finding a store that has it in a smaller size?

  • I completely agree with Amoro. I really think you should look around a bit more. I think you can find a dress that flatters you MUCH more than that one. You are a beautiful girl and you deserve a dress as beautfiul as you are.. :) You do NOT have to get it 9 months in advance, even a custom dress only takes 4 or 5 months usually. Sounds like they are trying to pressure you.

  • sorry, not a fan.  if you're aren't sure either, keep looking.  you have plenty of time.
  • That dress does nothing for your figure.  Keep looking and you will find something better.
  • That is a beautiful dress!  If you love it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.  You asked for pictures (not opinions).  I can't help you with that, but I agree that the one you're wearing looks like a different color than the stock photos.  I don't think yours looks silver at all.  As pp said, you don't need to order 9 months out. Take some time and try to find one in a smaller size to try on.
  • She didn't ask for opinions, but we weren't rude and if we think she has time to find something that will look better on her, imo, it's nice of everyone to say so.

  • I agree that you don't need 9 months to order a dress.  If you need another month, take it and look around. The last picture of you looks like it might be the same color, so I can't tell if the lighting where is are is just weird and if the dress is in fact the same color as on the model.
  • I looked for it all over, on a real bride, but the only pics I found were of you. Sorry. :(

  • Thanks ladies. I loved how it looked so elegant, and the lace at the bottom was beautiful but it was just so poofy!!! I thought it wouldn't be if it was in my size and was pretty set on the gown, but then when I saw the model it was still poofy. You're all pretty much confirming my worries about the gown, which is a big help. And the fact that I can't find it on any other bride means all I have to go off of is my own pictures and the model. ps. why is an open photobucket link bad? I'm pretty new to chats, I usually use my wedding blog for advice, but I was so desperate!
  • I can't see the picture because photobucket is blocked at work, BUT I did want to chime in about the 9 months thing. Do NOT let them make you think it takes that long. Granted, there have been a few maggie brides out there that have waited 6, 7, 8 months for their dress, but that's been pretty rare from what I've seen based on the posts here. I ordered my Maggie (standard hem length) from Pearl's Place and it was on my doorstep 3 months and 1 week later.
  • I was going to say that the gown looks better on you than the model.  If that is the type of gown you want to wear, I don't see how any other gowns of the style would look any better!  there is a lot of stuff going on in that skirt, though, but if it's what you are attracted, too, I think you wear it very well!I also agree with not being pressured into buying a dress due to time constraint.  I've had salons pull that one on me, and I could tell they were not being honest.

  • Bridesrighthand: I know you weren't being rude. I never said you were.  It's just that we all have different opinions, styles, and tastes.  She said she "really, really" loves the dress.  So it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.  It isn't always about what's most flattering or what would look the best in someone else's opinion. I think it's about what you love.  I just didn't want her to second guess how she felt about the dress because of some unsolicited opinions from others.  The dress is beautiful, and she is beautiful. She'll probably look good in just about anything she tries on.It's like the other knottie who loved her dress (and it looks amazing on her!) but who started to second guess her dress, or at least had her opinion somewhat tainted, by an off-handed comment her step-mom made.  It's hard to get those statements out of your head sometimes.  I think she should wear what she loves, regardless of anything else.
  • It looks like there is way too much detail and volume to the dress that it really hides the bride, even if it was the correct size.  Honey, I suggest you keep looking too.  Sorry.
  • To emphasize my point...look especially at the photo in the middle row and to the far right.  It looks like way way too much fabric.  I think it would be exhausting to haul it around all day/night.
  • This is a gorgeous dress, its just obviously too big on you. It will look perfect and a lot less frumpy when you get it in your size. I wouldnt worry about that.  I was in the same situation, but the opposite. I tried in on in a size 6 (even though I'm more like a size 10 and it was short torso-ed on me (too high at the waist), but i could tell it was still going to be down-right beautiful once my size came in.  Trust me, this dress is elaborate, but its something you'll only wear once and its spectacular to look at. Its going to look amazing once you get it in your size and for sure all eyes will be on you because you  just cant stop looking at this beautiful dress. Ask your salon attendents (at the bridal store) if they can show you other Maggie sottero dresses in the two other colors they come in (white, diamond white (which is like eggshell) and silver. Even if its a totally different dress the colors will be the same. This will help you decide what color you want.
