A Question of Texture

I like the idea of a simple/contemporary all lace wedding dress, but am wondering what bridesmaid dress fabric will coordinate best with it.  I am pretty sure I don't want my bridesmaids to be wearing lace as well, so I am looking at fabrics like silk taffeta and silk dulponi.  Does that combo work?  All lace and luster silks?  I don't want to look disjointed.  Would silk bridesmaid dresses with a cooridnating lace sash/belt help at all?

Re: A Question of Texture

  • Honestly, they will all work together. Don't worry too much about it and just choose a style you like.

  • As long as they mesh together in terms of formality, you should be fine (example: a casual cotton sundress would look dopey next to a fancy wedding dress). People aren't going to notice the exact fabric type, nor will they be expecting the BMs' dresses to mimic yours. And personally, I wouldn't get too attached to details like lace and sashes and belts just yet. Let your girls try some things on, see what works for them and then go from there. The most important part of the BMs' dresses is that they fit and flatter the girls properly. Having them in lace sashes to match your gown will do you no good if their bodies clearly cannot pull off a lace sash, know what I mean?Just go look around with them, and try out some different things.

  • If you're worried about the lustre, you could also look into softer, more matte fabrics like georgette and chiffon.

  • Your dress will look great with any other bm fabric, I've seen tons of different combos and have never thought "oh those textures look hideous together". Pick out what YOU really want for you and them. :)
