DB alterations

I am having issues with my dress. It is WAY to big, will probably need to go in about 3 sizes, a hem, and maybe a bustle. The manager at David's Bridal told me there is NONE of my dress ANYWHERE in the country, so I cannot order a smaller size. She said I could exchange it for a different dress if I wanted to. So here is where I stand, depending on how much alterations would cost for this dress is determining if I start the hunt again. Does anyone be able to ballpark what they would charge for the alterations I am going to neen? And also, I am worried that taking SO much of the dress in, would make the dress not look ight with the detail ect. Here is a link in case it helps.... http://tinyurl.com/lul2ob TIA

• Clicky: http://tinyurl.com/lul2ob Because your dress is a trumpet style, I would be a little concerned about taking it in that much. DB alterations tend to run high so I would also look around and ask independent seamstresses.

• I would call Davids Bridal 800# because it looks like they do have some in stock available online only. Davids Bridal told me that they could only take my dress in up to 2 sizes. And I have heard that alterations at Davids Bridal are pricey.
• I would definitely look into an independent seamstress to do the alterations for less. I was quoted about twice as much for alterations through DB than another seamstress at a local bridal salon. They would probably charge you over $300 to make the alterations that you would need.
• one of the many many reasons why i will not step foot inside a DB for anything for my wedding... i would first recommend asking someone else at that same DB or going to another DB and asking their store manager if there is another one. if in fact there isn't another dress in the smaller size i would do whatever it takes to get all of your money back, then i'd walk out the door and take my business elsewhere. there are so many smaller non-chain bridal stores that are in business to make personal connections and are there to give you the dress (that properly fits) of your dreams, unlike DB-they're just there to make money. i could go on for days telling multiple horror stories....do all that you can to get out of david's bridal!!!!
• I tried, they will not give me my money back, only store credit, which doesn't help when there is nothing I love there....sigh...
• I was very shocked at how much DB charged me to alter my dress. I was in a predicament, since I live in Kodiak, AK and they only offer my dress in-store and I was only in town for 24 hours. I knew exactly what dress I wanted ($600), however, they only had it in the next size up, so they had to take it in. Add in the charges for creating a bustle with, count 'em, 30 loops & hooks, and the cost of alterations was nearly the total cost of my dress. I was floored. There wasn't much I could do about it, though, since I didn't have time to search elsewhere. I also had to pay for the slip, bust cups to line the bust, veil, headband, brooch and fabric flower for the back of my dress, and the total cost was $1600 dollars!  :-O I am, however, thoroughly enamored of my dress. Seeing myself in it when I look in the mirror, I couldn't help but say, "This is it. The One. The dress I'm going to marry Will in." It's perfect. So, in retrospect, I guess it was all worth it.
