What to do about the dress?

I went dress shopping with my girlfriends tonight and found the PERFECT dress!! SaBelle by Maggie Sottero. Only problem is my wedding is 2 years away. My mom thinks it's a bad idea to get the dress this early. But it has all the qualities I'm looking for in a dress. And it's so beautiful! I absolutely love it!!! What to do?!

Re: What to do about the dress?

  • ahh i'm in the same dilemma! i think i agree with your mom though. I'm going to wait until it's closer, and then rethink it

  • I agree with the pp.  I would wait.  So many styles and dresses are coming out constantly that you might find one closer to the wedding that you like better.  You don't want to become a 2 dress bride!  Don't rush the process, if anything wait a few months and go dress shopping again and see if you feel the same way.  If you do and you just think everything pales in comparison then buy it, but I think you should probably dress shop a little more and just give yourself time to think about it.  No need to rush into that decision now...I'm sure the dress will still be available in a few months.
  • I would wait I bought my dress more than a year out and I've changed my mind so many times it's ridiculous. I still have the dress, but I don't love it. I only have it because it wasn't in the budget to get a new one.

  • I wouldn't have suggested you shop this early, but it's too late for that. LOL Personally, I'd wait a bit, to make sure it's really what you want. That dress should be out for a few more months at least, so if you still like it in a few months, get it then. Keep an eye on it, and if you see that it's getting discontinued, buy it. :)

  • Wait!! Don't buy a dress two years out. Enjoy dress shopping while you can- remember you only get to do this once! (Hopefully!)
  • WAIT!  For a few reasons:1) New styles will come out, you may change your mind2) What will you do with the dress, have it in your house for two years?  3) The dress isn't going anywhere, you can still buy it in a year if it is still on your mind...however once you buy a dress the fun is over.
  • Your options:1) buy the dress and stop looking, ENTIRELY - no web-browsing, no looking at dresses in magazines, no going to bridal shops to try more on 'just for fun', etc.  Because if you buy a dress this early, and keep looking?  You're setting yourself up for disappointment.  Tastes change over 2 years, as do trends, and if you keep looking you'll more than likely end up hating the dress you DO have, and want another one.2) hold off, keep looking, and then when it's a year out, revisit this dress and see if you still love it.  You'll be able to find it; even if it's discontinued through the manufacturer itself, you'll be able to find it SOMEWHERE - as a sample that's off-the-rack only, at a consignment store, at preownedweddingdresses.com, etc.  But you have to decide if you're prepared to cut yourself off entirely from the wedding dress experience for the next 2 years.

  • Also, if you wait, you may be able to find your dress on sale later on, or find a gal who's selling it used for less than you'd pay retail right now. And like others mentioned before, you don't want your dress hanging out for two years, where curious eyes might "accidentally" stumble upon it. ;)
