Final Fitting Question

Hi ladies.  I had my first fitting 4 weeks ago and have since lost 10 lbs.  The dress has been altered and is ready for me to do my final fitting.  I have the final fitting scheduled for tomorrow, but my wedding isn't until 11/22/09.  I am still losing weight and would like to lose 5 to 10 more lbs.   The store said that the fitting tomorrow would be concidered my final fitting and any additional alterations needed after the final fitting would be an additional cost.  They said the latest I could schedule this final fitting is 2 weeks from today and no later.   It looks like I am going to have to do another fitting closer to the wedding (preferrably 6 weeks before) and pay an additional cost.  Is this normal?  Should I even bother getting additional alterations after tomorrow's fitting, since I will most likely have to get them done again closer to the wedding? Can anyone please provide some insight/advice? TIA.

Re: Final Fitting Question

  • What I don't understand is why did you start your fittings so early. Normally you shouldn't start until 2 months before the wedding. With that said, I don't know why they won't just let you have your final fitting 3 weeks before the wedding like normal. (Honestly I don't know why they let you start your fittings if their policy is to do your final so early.)

  • Those were my thoughts.  I had no idea that it was too soon to do my first fitting.  No one at the store even bothered to mention it to me, nor did they mention that I had only 2 weeks between getting my dress after 1st fitting and the final fittin.  I feel like an idiot for not inquiring more about it, which is so unlike me.  Generally I am on top of these things and ask several questions.  I think my best alternative at this point is to hold off and do the finall fitting 6 weeks before wedding.  I am going to send an email to corporate and see if there isn't something they can do with respect to me having to pay again.
  • So basically, they've already declared that they've completed the work, perfectly and to your satisfaction, without you even seeing it. Even if they altered everything perfectly according to your size 4 weeks ago, some things might not be quite right and it should be their job to get it right before you pay them the balance and sign off on it. Imagine that you're building a house. What your dress shop is doing is basically telling you that the house is complete before you even get to go in and inspect... and if you find anything wrong, YOU have to pay for it. That's pretty sucky of them. And I agree with jagore, I don't understand why the fittings were done so early in the first place. But I guess there's not much you can do about that now. Anyway I'd definitely hold off on any addtional alterations until at least October.

  • ring_pop, The alterations from tomorrow's fitting are included in what I have already paid, when I did the first fitting.  If I want to get alterations done closer to the wedding, they are telling me that I have to pay again for them.  I've sent an email to corporate. Thanks ladies for comfirming that I am not crazy here!  Dumb for doing my alterations too early, but not crazy!  LOL!
  • Another question:  When do brides usually do their bridal portraits?  Is it done before the final fitting?  I'm having a bridezilla moment trying to coordinate it all!
  • Suddenly, I have the song "Another One Bites the Dust" in my head, but substituted for some choice words for David's Bridal.
  • Nope not David's Bridal...decided to completely avoid them, but guess I didn't end up much better off!
  • If you've already paid for your final fitting and they won't extend your timeframe than I think that you should have that final fitting you paid for. If it turns out that you will need additional alterations (and most likely you will) deal with it then.

  • Thanks jagore08.  I think that's the way I am headed.  I hope to hear something from corporate stating that the shop has lost their minds and that I shouldn't have to pay again!
