2nd Appointment Tomorrow

So I have my second appointment at David's Bridal tomorrow. I tried on about 25 dresses 2 weeks ago and out of those, like 7.  By then, they all looked the same so I decided to wait awhile and come back to try those ones on again. They are all so pretty, I'm having such a hard time with "that's the one"! Did anyone else feel this way? I can tell you if it's on that I DON'T like, but if I do like it, even if I love it, there's one right after it that I like too. After all....it IS a wedding dress! Also, anyone else here try David's Bridal? What did you think? I've been to a few smaller places, and the quality is so much nicer at those places, but it's not like the dress has to last more than a day. Sorry if I'm rambling lol. Long day :)

Re: 2nd Appointment Tomorrow

  • Definitely had this feeling. I searched and searched and on my 5th trip, yes 5th- at 7 different stores about 7 dresses at each store, I found the dress. I didn't cry and neither did my mother like people usually say, but I just knew. I felt beautiful, I didn't want to take it off, I felt like a bride. I went to David's Bridal but didn't try on dresses because the store was mobbed. They do have very beautiful dresses though. Only you can make the decision of quality vs. price. DB is still VERY good quality (at a very good price) so it's not like you're buying a cheap dress that's going to fall apart halfway through the reception. DB is usually good about letting you take pics, so take pics and then look at them when you get home and see which ones you like better.
  • how exciting!!i thought i had the same problem since i tried on like 50 dresses and loved them all BUT there was alsways this one i would go back to and compare. no other dress could top that ONE. so just dont stop until you get that feeling. if not you'll end up with 5 dresses :)Good Luck

  • I just saw you're a 10/10 bride- you've still got time before you need to order your dress, so don't rush it and regret it later.
  • I got my dress at Davids.  I went in with the intention of not purchasing a dress.  It was my first time trying on dresses, I wanted to get an idea of what I wanted because I had planned on going to the Running of the Brides at Filenes basement the next week.     The first dress I put on I LOVED (style CRL277) , I didn't really have the "it's the one" feeling, but it's a gorgeous dress and I felt gorgeous in it.  I thought it was just the first wedding dress that I put on so that was making it feel that much more special.  I tried on maybe 10 more dresses and none of them compared.  It was the last day of a sale (which I didn't even know was going on), and I decided to get it.  Later I learned they frequently have sales so I would've been fine if I would have waited.     My consultant didn't say anything about undergarments, partnership discounts, the 90 day exchange policy, alterations costs etc.  I've never been in a wedding and am the first person in my family to get married, so I had no clue what I was doing.  I had quiet a few problems with them, but in the end I'm very happy with the dress I purchased.       I agree with you that it's only one day, it's crazy to spend thousands of dollars on a dress!
  • David's Bridal actually has some very nice dresses, particularly the Oleg Cassini gowns.  I wore an OC and even my seamstress was really impressed by the quality.  It was better than most of the other designers I tried on in my price range.  Other than that, the level of service you receive varies by location, but I didn't have any problems with them. Not everyone has the "this is the one!" moment with the flood of tears and all that jazz lol.  For me, I knew I found the right dress because there was nothing I wanted to change about it (it had all the features I was looking for at a good price).  Sometimes it helps to take pictures of yourself in the gowns you try on because they can look totally different in photos than they do in person.  That definitely helped me when I was making the final decision.

  • Thanks for the replies, girls. I am a 10/10 bride, but I start school for Respiratory Therapy in 2 weeks and it is a very intense program, so I wanted to try to get some of the shopping done. Not necessarily buy one now, but get an idea, because who knows when I'll have time and I know the next year will fly by. The program even goes into the summer next year, so if I don't start now...I'll be panicking later.
  • just to add my 2 cents: I didn't have a "that's the one" moment until AFTER i decided to buy the dress.  saks fifth avenue was closing their bridal department and selling all their dresses at 70-80% off.  i went to try on dresses for fun and just to see even though it was 11 months before my wedding.  i had it narrowed down to two but i still didn't think i was going to buy a dress that day, it was crazy.  my mom wasn't there, my MOH wasn't there, but my FI was!  this wasn't how i dreamed i would buy my dress.  but i called my mom on the phone, wearing one of the dresses, while FI did some math on the cost, and then, finding out I could get Amsale for the same price as DB, I said to my mom "Wow, I'm just going to get this one."  As soon as I said that I started turning red and getting teary-eyed.  6 months later, no regrets, still in love with my impluse dress, it was definitely "the one!"

  • I wouldn't pressure myself to pick one if I were you.  With over a year from your wedding you have tons of time to find a dress and tons of time to change your mind.  Especially if you're thinking of going the DB route where you buy off of the rack in most cases and don't have to wait months for a dress to be made and shipped. I haven't chosen my dress for my May 2010 wedding (although I have two finalists) but plan to buy by the end of Sept.  I also tried on at DB and agree with KappaUFC that the Oleg Cassini are very nicely made.  They are the only ones I tried on and one of them I really considered.
