MY DRESS WON'T FIT!!!!!!

I purchased my dress about three years ago because my original wedding date was January 3, 2009.  Do to death in the family we postponed our wedding, and because I always wanted a January weding the new date is January 8, 2010.  Well, in that time frame, I've gone from a size two to a size six.  I've been dieting for the last six months, but I feel a sausage in my wedding dress!  I love the dress and don't want a new one, but I don't know what to do. HELP!!!!!!!!

Re: MY DRESS WON'T FIT!!!!!!

  • Have you taken it for alterations already? If not, then maybe the seamstress can do something to let it out a bit. Do you have pics of your dress??
  • Well you say you have been dieting for 6 months, have you also been exercising? I know for me, that I can diet all I want, but once I combine it with exercise, the weight comes off fast. Try to stay away from all good things man tortures us with, ie sweets, sodas, fried fatty foods lol. Can I ask if you have been able to get closer to you goal size in the past 6 months? Depending on the dress, if your still a little bit aways from it, and are afraid you wont make your goal weight in time, some seamstresses can add pleats. But it all depends on the dress. I think that if you eat really healthy, and work out at least 30 minutes a day, you should fit into your dress in no time! Good luck!
  • My dress was altered in August 2008. I've also been exercising.  I dance 3 days a week, and I've also recently taken up jogging.  I really just don't know what else to do.
  • My dress didnt' fit either.  I took it to a seamstress and instead of the dress being zipper back it's a corset back. Looks great!
  • BTW: My dress is from David's Bridal. Style V9010
  • First of all, see if it can't be taken out a bit.  That may help at least a little in making the dress fit better.I also second what future said.  I can diet all I want but it isn't until I combine it with exercise that the inches really start to drop.Weight Watchers has always worked well for me too.
  • I went from a FULL size 8 to a 4 in about 3 months.  You can definitely do this.  I used Sparkpeople.com to track my food & even got a heart rate monitor to make sure I was being realistic about what I was burning.  I input my actual weekly calorie burn, tracked everything I ate, and aimed always for the middle of the calorie range recommended (when I ate on the lower end I didn't lose as much, you need to support your activity level calorically).  You can definitely take off the weight.  I'm guessing 20lbs for 2 dress sizes, that's 5 lbs. per month to be in your dress by early December.  Do NOT under eat...it will hamper your progress.  Buckle down & good luck!  I can't wait to see the results!
  • http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/clo/1322544479.html the same dress is posted in craigslist in a size 10 and its not terribly expensive there. You might want to explore the option of finding it used if Davids Bridal is no longer selling it. You might also want to contact Davids Bridal to see what they recommend as well. Maybe they do have some left that were not sold.
  • I had the same problem, with all the stress I had planning I put on a bunch of weight. The seamstress was able to let it out, but not enough. Try the Sacred Heart Medical Cleanse. It worked for me, I feel great, and now my dress fits well. I did the diet and exercised, and lost 12 lbs in a week! Normally I wouldn't recommend something but this, but we all know how desperate we are to get into our dresses! Just type in Sacred Heart Medical Cleanse into your favorite search engine, you'll get all the info needed.
  • Ditto Vans. Also, is your dress a corset back? If worse comes to worse you can see if the seamstress can put one in and it will give you some extra room.

  • I always live by the mantra of 'everything in moderation' so I occasionally eat fast food/sweets/etc (not often though!), but in this case... CUT out all fried foods, heavy sugary foods, and cut your carbs down. I really started to lose weight when I counted ALL my calories (and I've always worked out 3-5 days a week but was really maintaining weight). If you are serious about this... write down EVERYTHING you eat, I mean even a cup of coffee, a mid-day snack, etc. You have to burn 3500 calories to lose one pound, and you can monitor is daily to see if you are burning more than you are consuming. Another thing, just because something is FAT FREE does not make it good for you at all. That's why the calorie counting can really help. Also, SNACK all day . . don't starve yourself because you'll only scarf food down when you get your hands on it (i know i will!). I always have healthy food to snack on (string cheese, carrots, sugar free jello, baked chips, granola bars, fruit, etc). GOOD LUCK!
  • my dress doesn't fit either!! It was depressing when I first tried it on.  BUT here is my excuse....I did an internship in FL for four months and was on my own on little money, so that meant little food to survive.  I lost about 15 pounds down there and looked great.  I came back and tried on a dress the first weekend that was on a mannequin for about a year (size 8) and ordered it. Well my dress came in and I have since eaten a little more, not exercised, and ate junk.  Gained back my 15 and tried on the dress in June and ya.......she said its because the dress on the dummy was stretched and mine isn't.  so I have time to loose back the weight and if necessary add the corset.  I feel the pain though!!
