Dresses that flatter all figures?

I have busty girls in my wedding party, what kind of dress can flatter all body types?I really want strapless but that creates problems, because most big woman are concious of there arms and i dont want to much cleavage showing, I want it to be tasteful.

Re: Dresses that flatter all figures?

• Are you open to letting them pick out dresses that they like? Alot of bridal parties use the same designer, fabric , and color, but are each in a style they have chosen. It has become very popular and I think that is done more than every maid in the same dress nowadays.
• My girls sizes were all over the place. Two of my girls are large chested and there was no way they were going to feel comfortable in a strapless dress so I had them all choose whatever style they wanted as long as they had the same color, fabric, and length. Here they are all together

• We used 2 dresses that were the same fabric in 2 different cuts. Half of the girls went strapless, the other half w/ a v neck dress. Everyone was happy.
• I had the same problem, we finally found a dress that we could all agree on. It was great and everyone looked beautiful. Jasmine B2
• I would let them pick their own out. There is no magical dress out there that looks fab on everyone....well, WE may think that our girls look good in anything, but they may not be comfortable in the same styles.

• Sometimes strapless dresses show less cleavage than others. All my girls wore DB bridesmaid dresses that were tea length and strapless. One has a large chest and there was no cleavage. They probably have to try them on to see what works and doesn't.

• As a busty lady myself, I will say that it is nice to give your BMs the option of adding small straps. Many strapless gowns will come with an optional strap. If you want to avoid massive cleavage the strapless dress (even with the strap) may not be your ideal dress style. The 1 really important thing to remember is do NOT get a dress that has an empire waste of any sort. The line that is supposed to go under the bust oftentimes lands in the middle and looks reallllly bad. May main advice is - if you are going to have them all wear the same dress, let them try it on in advance and get their honest feedback. Good luck!! Oh...one more thing....corset backs work really well on bustier girls. If you can find a strapless with a corset back that could work out well.
• I have a couple of busty BMs as well. We are doing long dresses for the wedding. After talking with all the girls, the skinny toothpicks wanted strapless and the busties wanted straps, and one of my girls loves halter tops.....so we went with a two piece dress from Jordan, they all have the same bottom (to make the girls looks somewhat similar) but each BM picked their own top. All the girls love their dresses and appear comfortable in them. I'm glad we went that route.
• jagore, What designer did you use for you BM dresses?
• I was recently a bridesmaid in a wedding, & the bridal party was as follows: eight months pregnant, 43 years old, two relatively large/large BUST girls, and...me. Anyway, my friend (the bride) really wanted us all in the same dress, and she found one that actually looked good on all of us. It was actually a deep-v neckline with an empire waist, and the MOG sewed the necklines up until they covered on everyone. Some people had lower necklines than others, but it was a good way to make the same dress work for everyone. Plus, they were only fifty bucks! Yay! (www.spiegel.com is where they were from)

• I have girls of all different sizes, so my solution was this: we went with separates from DB. They have a new top that can be tied 6 different ways that all my girls loved, so they all got that top and a skirt of their choice, and they are all tying the top a different way. My petite sister is wearing hers strapless, my muscular BM is doing a one shoulder type thing, one of my busty-er girls is doing a halter style and the other is doing an over the shoulder thing (so it looks like it has sleeves). It turned out super cute!
• I let my girls pick their own dress. I just gave some guidelines to follow...it was a certain color and it had to be tea length or shprter. They LOVED me for it. They got to pick a dress they truly enjoy as well as get something that is in their budget. And most of them did pick dresses that can be worn again. By giving them that option it really gets the girl excited to get dressed for your wedding because they are wearing something that makes me feel beautiful and that will show in the wedding photos...they will feel much more confident. I was in a wedding with a busty girl and so the bride picked dresses for her and the rest of us were uncomfortable. I know for me it was even worse because i am really short...i was just swimming since it didn't come in petite...even after alterations...
• David's Bridal style 8567 is great for all shapes and sizes. I have nine BMs that run the gamut size wize (2, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 22) and it looked great on all of them. You can also get a sheer wrap that goes over their shoulders and looks elegant and tasteful. A lot of my girls didn't want strapless and when they tried it on they loved it. http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&catentryId=6096963Hope that helps.jL
• I had the same situation. This was the most stressful part of planning the wedding so far. I wanted everyone to be comfortable. So finally i pick 3 dif dresses from Davids Bridal all the same material and color so they match. Now everyone can have their pick of what they feel they look good in. One is strapples and the other two have some sort of strap. Hopefully this will turn out ok. Good luck i'm happy i'm done with this part
• All of my girls are different sizes so I went with Alfred Angelo style #6493 and it looks great on all of my girls. and they didn't have to spend a whole lot of money on them. I'm very happy with the dress's. You should go onto Alfred Angelo and check them out!
• I'm another vote for checking out alfred angelo. All of my girls are on the bustier size and they all loved the dress I picked which is style number 7048.(http://www.alfredangeloca.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=a23e642d-125d-40b2-b821-3911619e255e&categoryID=053f22f3-72d9-4a6d-af34-392c45fe8c96&pg=0).This dress is cut high on the chest so that all the girls can wear a supportive bra.
• My BMs vary from busty to not so much and they are all wearing the same dress. It works well for them all. It's by After Six and the style number is 6552.
• At DB, I learned that as long as a strapless dress fits you in the waist, it doesn't matter how big your chest is (I didn't think, as a D, that I'd be comfortable in a strapless, but the lady there really fit me well, and I was surprised. Also, there are many ways to cover up exposed arms, be it a shawl, a bolero, a cardigan... FWIW, we went with J Crew dresses for the girls. At first I had said "no strapless" because it's a winter wedding, but then I realized that the fabric and color were enough to make the dresses fit the season. Even though my MoH chose a dress with short sleeves (final tally: 1 Short-sleeve, 1 straps with a v-neck, 2 strapless), I am giving them all a pashmina wrap so that they can keep warm/cover up if they want to, and use it as a scarf year-round! Another idea for you there :) Good luck!
• This is completely opposite from the situation I was in as a bridesmaid. All the busty and bigger girls insisted on a strapless dress, while I wanted the halter top. I could've added straps to my dress, but I didn't want to stand out for having them. I was uncomfortable the whole night and pulling up my dress. Let them choose what they want in the same color.

• A multi tiered dress will flatter everyone of every size. For example, I wear an 8-10 dress size and just bought an evenng gown that is tiered from the bust down and I've never looked so thin! WOW. Also, my friend needed a dress for the wedding and she is very self conscious because of her weight. She wears a size 18 and is very busty and also thick through the waist. We went out last week and bought her a dress that was loosly tiered from top to bottom (just below the knee) and it looked great on her. She was thrilled and that is no small task let me tell you. It even made her bust look small. It is pictured on JC Penney web site and comes in eggplant or black, but it was shown shorter than ours. We got ours from Macy's but I couldn't find it on line to show my friend.
• the only thing i can tell you is stay away from satin. it seems to be clingy and hides nothing. My girls are all different sizes so I gave them free reign on what they wore except for color and i wanted them all to be from the same place so the colors all matched. it got down to the time when they absolutely needed to order their dress and they wanted me to pick it and they wanted to match. then nobody liked the dress i picked and it was a huge headache. in the end they decided on a dress they thought would look good on everyone(they hope anyway). but they chose it so they can't be mad at me for it.
• Being a full-figured busty bride (and previously a BM), I am not doing strapless for my gown. And I was so thankful to my friends who asked me to wear BM dresses that were complimentary to my figure. My three BM's are tall (6'0) and thin, medium & busty/full-figured, and petite & slim. There is no way I'll find a dress that all three will feel comfortable in all day. So I have done the same as a lot of others on here - they will all have the same color, fabric, and length and get to pick what they want. In the end, it's your day, so you have a lot of say in the matter. But your friends will appreciate it if you keep them in mind when making the decision, especially if they are comfortable and feel pretty all day while they are doing everything they can to make your day perfect.
