Ugh, Maggie dress rant...

Totally bummed. My bridal shop where I ordered my Maggie (Aretha) dress told me that my dress would be here mid-August. Well I called today (because I still haven't heard anything) and asked where it was. I got a whole "run around" speech. Apparently "Mid-August" means "late-August" "early-September". Um yeah, I placed my order March 2nd. I know six months is a long time but geez, I hear people get their dresses way sooner than they had anticipated. I thought that this would be the case but unfortunately I have to wait longer. Plus, I'm stressed about my weight because the sales consultant gave me a big speech about how not to gain weight and how not to lose too much weight! So telling a bride not to gain or lose too much weight is crazy!! Any one else expierence this issue with the ordering of their Maggie dress?

Re: Ugh, Maggie dress rant...

  • I've heard from a bridal consultant that when a store doesn't get your dress in on time it usually isn't the manufacturer- it means they were behind on payments to the company (and most likely other bills). The owner warned me about this. I haven't heard many Maggie complaints so I would be a bit skeptical but good luck! What a tough situation!
  • im so sorry youre going through this.i ordered my gown in august and got it in december.i have no idea why yours would take this long maybe theyre backed up.and i have no idea why it matters about your weight. its a corset right? i gained and lost alot from aug to feb and it was fine.she is crazy lolhope it all works out just keep calling them every week.

  • Thanks for the info girls. I'm ticked off at the bridal shop. They get until September 2nd to get that dress in or then it's on! It also was aggravating because the person I spoke with on the phone mis-pronounced my name and asked me my wedding date, twice! I hadn't heard about this paticular bridal shop being shady I had only heard good things. Also I heard they get dresses in sooner that they quoted. And yes, it is a corset so I thought I did have a little room to gain or lose, if I did. But the bridal consultant freaked me out with her loud and obnoxious speech about gaining and losing weight in her german accent! Anyway, thanks again.
  • I got my Maggie in a different way, didn't have to order it.  About the weight thing, the great thing about your dress and most Maggies is that they are corset backs so weight is rarely a problem.  My consultant told me unless I gain or lose a completely unhealthy amount it will be able to be a tailored fit. So don't stress about your weight!  I hope it comes in soon for you.  It's a gorgeous dress!  You will look fantastic!
  • dkp05- Thanks for the info about the corset, at least I can stop freaking about that. I have a little wiggle room, literally! Hopefully the dress comes soon, I don't want to have to deal will any alterations at the last minute, I just want to get it done and move on with other planning!
  • Im so sorry that your bridal shop is giving you the run around! ....BUT I am super excited that we are dress twins!! It is a beautiful gown and you definitely have to post pics when you do get it in:) :) My gown also took 6 months and did not come in any earlier. :) Good luck and stay on top of the bridal shop :)
  • Dude, relax.  It's not like it's really past due or anything.  Dresses take 6-8 months.  Chill out before going bridezilla on them.  You'll get a lot farther if you are nice than if you go BSC on them.  So what if she had to ask your date twice?  She's looking through stuff to find the right information.  This is not a crisis. Calm.down.
  • i got my  maggie in less than 4 months. perhaps the store didnt really order it in march? good luck

  • I ordered my dress last August 31st and it didn't come in until June. It happens. The store may not have ordered it right away, since you don't need it here yet. Or there could have been a delay in shipping. I would wait until after Labor Day, then get persistent.

  • I ordered my Maggie in November and it arrived the beginning of July, about 2 weeks late.  Perhaps certain styles just take longer to make (mine is a corset back too).  Keep calm and follow up with the bridal shop every couple of weeks.  GL!
  • I've heard from a bridal consultant that when a store doesn't get your dress in on time it usually isn't the manufacturer.Totally agree with this!

  • Amoro- Thanks for your. Understanding. Note. Ugh. If it's one thing I dislike hearing more is "calm down". I am calm, just frustrated. There is a difference. Everyone else- I know that dresses take time but I'm sorry, when I am given an original date to go by, it should be here. If your running a business then run it correctly. I don't, and shouldn't have to keep calling the bridal shop to ask if my dress is in yet, when in fact it should already be here. L&E2010- Yay! I haven't found a dress twin yet! Thats exciting! I'll try to post pictures if I can ever figure out how!!
  • Well, be thankful that your bridal store is still in business.  We had a store in our area with its doors closed a week ago, the owner has fled, and about 50 brides are without dresses.  Down payment money was taken, but orders were never placed.
  • mine took 7 months as told.
  • I don't know if this helps you but I ordered my Maggie in very late March and put a rush on it because my wedding was in September. They told me the dress should arrive August 1st. They gave me an exact day. When it wasn't in on August 15th I began to freak out a bit. Of course it's a little different with me since my wedding is so close, but I was told that they did get just a little backed up at the factory. That may or may not be true, but since you ordered around the same time as me and are experiencing a similar situation I'd say it gives the story a bit more credibility. My dress just came in today, 18 days late. That being said, "mid August" could be anywhere from August 10th to August 20th in my opinion so I'd definitely cut them a little slack. I'd say Labor day is a reasonable deadline to wait for before you really panic.
  • I used to know a Bridal Dress Shop owner and if you are being told it takes 8 months plus to order a dress, it is probably down to cashflow.Do you have a "latest" delivery date for the dress?  When do you need it by?  I would ask for a definate delivery date from them at this point, especially since mid august is turning in to early september.Alterations shouldn't take that long, so I wouldn't worry. The only time weight loss becomes a problem is if your dress has a large amount of beading on it, then it becomes a very expensive and lengthy process of removing the beading and then reattaching it to balance the pattern.  But you'd need to be dropping dress sizes for this to happen.
  • i placed my dress order for my Maggie dress in March and was told it would be in latest July, when late July came and i got no call i went to the bridal shop n they were not open, i called the number n the phone was disconnected, never heard from them again n had to reorder my Maggie gown through another bridal shop and thankfully it was in stock so should get it in a month or so. I feel your frustration about getting the run around but am sure you'll be okay.
