Cleaning your own dress?

My dress is "French taffeta" - completely made of synthetic materials. Can I hand wash it? Has anyone tried this?

Re: Cleaning your own dress?

  • Is it polyester? If it's silk don't touch it. If it's polyester, turn it inside out and wash on the delicate cycle.
  • By synthetic materials, I did indeed mean polyester.

  • There's a thread about this on the first page of the Wedding Recap board (you may have to scroll down a bit... I don't have time to find it right now).  But I've heard that as long as the material is synthetic, you should be fine.  Some people put their gowns inside pillowcases, just to add an extra layer of protection lol.  It's the drying that can be a problem because it's so heavy when it comes out of the wash.
