Help! HEIRLOOM dress!

I am looking for advice! I have my grandmother's beautiful wedding dress from 1930, it's a full lace, long sleeve, cathedral length masterpiece, but it is TINY. I think she must have been 80 pounds when she got married. I really want to use the material, but have no idea how to do this. I'm not a designer, and know nothing about making clothes. I also don't want to spend more than the "normal" amount on a dress. Has anyone else done something like this?Who should I go to? How do I know it's going to look right?

  • Get recommendations on your local for a good seamstress.  She should be able to give you a good idea of what you can and can't do with it.

  • You could use the lace for a veil or use it for appliques or an overlay on your dress. If it's so gorgeous and has survived for this long, though, it seems a shame to butcher it and not save it for future generations.
