What to do with my veil?

My hubs was kind enough to take my gown to the cleaners to be cleaned, preserved, and boxed. I forgot to give him the veil too. Should I take the veil to have it preserved and boxed? Is this just a money making racket, or is it beneficial? Is there an alternate way to keep it looking good for years to come?

Re: What to do with my veil?

  • Well, if you want it too look pristine, then it's not a money making racket since it would be almost impossible to do otherwise. I do believe that all that stuff is a racket, only because I can't imagine why you would want to preserve a dress.
  • Regardless if you have it cleaned after 20 years or so its going to yellow unless maybe you have it vaccume (sp) sealed.
  • does your veil have lace on it? my mom preserved (or thought it was preserved) her dress and veil over 30 yrs ago. the dress has since yellowed, but her veil still looks good, except for the lace edging. the tulle might keep, but i dont think the lace will.
  • I'm a drycleaner.  DON'T vacuum seal your gown.  But... as long as your veil is clean, go ahead and put it in the box with your gown from the cleaners.  No problem.  If you don't want to do this, gently fold your veil into a clean, white, washed cotton pillowcase and store it away from heat or moisture.  It will stay safe.
  • Thank you everyone!
