Retooling a veil

My mom recently found her veil and we're tossing around the idea of retooling it somehow so that I can wear it.  She's 8 hours away, so I'm working off her description.  It's apparently a big, poufy 3 tier veil with one layer of cathedral length tulle, one layer of mantilla length with lace (which I know isn't a real thing, I'm assuming she means it's just a medium length) and one short (probably elbow) layer. She says that the lace is yellowed a bit, but the tulle is in perfect condition.  Ideally, I just want a simple one or two tier fingertip length veil (or possibly just a single layer cathedral), so we'd have to remove a layer or two, remove the yellowed lace, and shorten it.  She's going to take it to a seamstress soon to get a second opinion.  Has anyone done this?  Did it work out?  Suggestions? Any pictures? TIA!

Re: Retooling a veil

  • buying new will be waaay cheaper and look better no yellowing., etc.if you want to incorporate your mom's mantilla why not sew the lace part around the outside of the hankercheif you use for the wedding.
  • oops "handkerchief"
  • I'm thinking about using my mom's veil too. Hers is pretty much the design/shape I would want, it has even yellowed to match my ivory dress...how convenient. Hers is attached to an 80s-tastic fluffy headpeace though, so I am trying to figure out how to get it off that thing without ruining it. Good luck! =)
