Worst Nightmare Come True.

Just want to know if this has happened to anyone else out there and what the outcome was, or if anyone has any suggestions.  Our wedding is a week from today. I had my alterations done a few weeks ago, and the dress looked terrible, told the seamstress (A legitimate seamstress from a bridal store) what i didn't like, she called me to come pick it up yesterday because she is leaving for vacation today.  The dress is better in some areas (the capped sleeves aren't cutting off my circulation, the button isnt brown from her dirty fingers, the boning no longer exposes my entire ta-ta's to the world)  but the dress still fits bad in the top section... it's just too large in general. oh and instead of the button being filthy, the entire top part where she removed the boning is filthy from her grubby hands.   I'm going to my aunts on my lunch break to see what her sister, a professional seamstress can do to fix it. (She couldnt orignally alter my dress because she was making my cousin's dress whose wedding was 3 weeks ago)  Will I have time to get my dress altered AND cleaned within a week???

Re: Worst Nightmare Come True.

  • um... I think you should ask the seamstress if SHE can have the dress altered and cleaned within a week. Not us.

  • Possibly. I would start calling cleaners and explaining your situation to see if they would be able to clean your dress in a day or two. Did you pay this other seamstress? She sounds very unprofessional. Did she work in a bridal salon (maybe the one that you bought your dress from)? If so I would be there right now making sure that you got a refund for the alterations and that they pay to have your dress cleaned. That's ridiculous. I would also take pictures of your dress (and close ups of the dirty parts) before anyone else touches your dress so you have proof. Also, you should go on your local board and warn other brides of this seamstress so they don't fall into the same position you've been put into.

  • the seamstress is on vacation, i think i put that in the original post... pictures though, thats a good idea!  yes we paid her, it was only $80 and i just wanted to cut my losses at that point, there was no point in arguing with someone who wouldn't be able to do anymore.  its not the place that i got my dress, this is still an alfred angelo dealer though, and she is a seamstress contracted through them who owns her own business but does all of the alterations for them... (like a hairdresser rents a booth?) and i will post something on my board, i did put something up on facebook and people i know now start to come out and say that they had problems too! (wish they would have told me this earlier!!)  i really dont know much about cleaners, but my mom seems to think that they can just do a spot cleaning on the upper part and that shouldnt take as long as a full cleaning..

  • You should contact the Alfred Angelo store that recommends her to brides and let them know your complaint. You should also let them know that she represents their store and they might want to think about who they're sending their brides to. That's just ridiculous.

  • I think the time limit is more then possible to fix what needs fixed and cleaned.  It just sucks that you are in this situation at all though.  I'd be furious and I definitely wouldn't let $80 go.
