uncomfortable

I went for my first fitting this week and although I love my dress, I hate the way it feels on me. It's a trumpet style and very fitted and covered in lace and crystals. Because of all this work on it, the dress feels thick especially on the top portion (if that makes any sense?) and so when I put my arms down, my arm looks fatter than they normally are. I wish I had some pictures to show what I mean, but my mother said it looks like the top is fitting too high up (so the dress comes to right under my armpit practically). Is anyone else's dress like this? Is this something my seamstress can fix?

Re: uncomfortable

  • If you hae a good seamstress, Im sure she can do something to fix it for you.
  • Is it a strapless dress?  I don't know why, but that is what I am picturing -- maybe because mine is trumpet and strapless!  I was told that a strapless dress/top should never actually hit your underarms; it should actually sit just below.  Maybe it is pulled up too high?  Do you think pulling it down a bit would help?  If so, then maybe your seamstress would just have to take in the bust a smidge so you don't feel like it will fall down.

  • Yes its strapless (sweetheart style). The thing is even if I move it down, my arms will still be hitting all the beading on the sides which seems so thick. But I will talk to her about moving it down somehow, thk u :-)
  • The concern about it being too high is legitimate, and I would mention it at your next fitting. However, I would really like to see some pictures before you stress over your arms looking fat.  I have a feeling its just you.  Nobody else is going to notice.  Plus, how often during your wedding day are you likely to have your arms just down by your sides?  Probably not much.  So relax, I'm sure you look beautiful in your dress.
  • Talk to the seamstress about removing some of the beading under your arms to make it more comfortable. I expressed the same concern about underarm chafing to the saleswoman when I tried on a heavily beaded dress (that I didn't wind up buying for other reasons), and she said that it's normal for the seamtress to remove some beading to make it comfier.

  • Good idea about removing some beadwork to prevent chaffing too. I'll def ask her :)  And I'll make sure to post some pics after the next fitting...
