Need Dress Color Advice

Ok so i found a dress today that i LOVE LOVE LOVE.. its everything i wanted except for they only make it in ivory.. which is fine because thats the color i tried it on in and was more than okay. but i always pictured a "white" dress. my colors are fuschia black white and silver and i feel like me in ivory would throw the whole thing off. all afternoon i've been looking for a dress online similar to the one i tried on.. but in white. and i cant find anything. should i keep looking or is the ivory not a big deal? i have pics but i dont know how to put them up :)

Re: Need Dress Color Advice

  • I'm not an expert, but I think ivory is really lovely. It's likely to look whiter under lights, too, and my guess is that in pictures, you'll barely be able to tell the difference. Can you possibly alter the white stuff (linens?) to ivory?
  • My colors are Fuschia black and white but my dress will either be Ivory or Light Gold. It will be fine. I had also envisioned white until I tried on dresses. I had purchased several items in white for the ceremony and reception and Im not going to change it. I don't believe the brides dress really counts in the color scheme JMHO
  • Nobody will ever know the difference between white and ivory. And you don't need to switch your color scheme from white to ivory. Seriously, nobody will know or care about anything this trivial. It will only be a big deal if you make it one.

  • Ack, I feel so bad now.  I went to Running of the Brides and didn't get a dress because most dresses were in ivory.  I, for some reason, am just so set on having a diamond white dress and I seem to refuse to settle for ivory! :/  But you have no problem with it as the color of your dress, and are only concerned with whether it'd "match" your color scheme, I say don't worry about it.  I don't think the dress has to match the linen per se.  In fact, it's the opposite for me - my linen will be ivory but I just want a diamond white dress.

  • Don't worry - nobody will notice or care!
  • I have an ivory dress that didn't look good in white, the lace in front was white and having the ivory behind it made the detail pop out. I think you're too worried about having a matchy wedding. If you love the dress then wear it, no one will care. • I had that same question myself.  (Also black/white/fuschia).  To make myself stop freaking out, I watched my friend's wedding video.  She had a very dark ivory dress, but her linens and everything at the reception were white.  You couldn't tell the difference on the video.  So do whatever you want!
  • I personally think ivory dresses look quite white in professional photography -- if you like the dress, I wouldn't worry about it!  The color difference will hardly be noticed, as others have already said.  Its all about what shade looks best against your skin tone.
  • We are talking about shades of white here. Even the "whites" in your color scheme are going to vary because they will all be made by different manufacturers. White linens by one company could very well be called cream by another...your FI's and GM's shirts will differ from the shade of white of your flowers, etc., etc. An ivory dress isn't going to throw anything off and no one is going to notice that it's not white-white unless you plan on standing next to another bride so they can see the difference!
