David's Bridal - Anyone have any problems?

Would you recommend David's? I have heard some bad things. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I was told the alterations can be as much as the dress and thats how they get you in the door.

  • Review in bio...but to sum it up, they were amazing. However, I have heard that it is hit or miss, depending on the store.

  • I had a horrible exprerience PRIOR to going to Davids and they SAVED ME from wearing jeans to my wedding. LOL. I have PRAISE for DB. I know every store is different, but I had a wonderful experience.

  • I had an good time and a bad time (two different stores). The bad time was because the store manager never said one word to me while I was there with my dad. I really liked one dress but wanted to try on a couple of others (Maggie's and Casablanca's) so I decided to wait on buying. As we were walking out the door, the manager pounced on us telling us that I should buy the dress, it might be discontinued, blah, blah, blah. She knew nothing about me or what I wanted. All she knew is that I was in a dress for 20 minutes and that I liked it but never talked to me. I just found that extremely rude.

  • I had 1 ok experience and 3 great ones, so the good out weighed the bad.I bought 1 dress at my parents request they said it was beautiful, but when I finally got it in I hated the dress, it wasn't me.So I went back to the store and the manager let me exchange the dress. So all in all I can't complain.
  • It really varies from store to store. I had a great experience for my dress at one store and had a horrible experience with a BM dress at another. Try your local, see if anyone can recommend a good David's in your area.
  • i'm in the process of working with them and have zero complaints about 2 different stores. i won't be needing any alterations though so idk about that. i would def give your local store a chance.
  • I had a wonderful experience with my local DB, but it can vary from store to store. Also, I didn't want to take any chances so I used an independent seamstress for my alterations.

  • I love the managers at my local DB.  I found a dress I LIKED there and invited Mom and MOH and a BM to see me try it on.  This was like a month after I got engaged, so I didn't want to buy anything yet.  I looked at another store before my appointment at DB and found a dress I LOVED.But I went to my appointment at DB anyway, and we showed them the dress I found at the other store.  DB tried to help me "recreate" the dress.  I'd try one on and say what I liked and they would get me a different one based on what I said.  I ended up with a dress that looked nothing like what I had pictured but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.  They helped me add a sash to the dress in a way that I would have never come up with on my own.The best part is that it was the stock dress and it was discontinued so I got the very last one, at a very cheap price.  And David's will check the beading and steam the dress for free!!!I got the bridesmaids dresses on DBonline & haven't had any problems there either.

  • Go to David's first, but go to other stores afterwards. I went to my local DB and found dresses that I liked, but went to another independent store and found 3 dresses that were in the same price range but MUCH nicer fabrics than DB offered. It's worth a trip to see if you can find something you like, but remember there are other stores out there that have reasonably priced dresses!
  • Not all of DB's dresses are made with bad or cheap fabric... lol.  My gown actually had nicer lace and was constructed better than other designers I tried on.

  • I would not get any alterations done there.
  • I got my dress there and had a good experience. My BMs are from there too. They were helpful nice and not pushy. I got my alterations there too. It was 60 dollars for a 3 point over bussel, straps added and a few stitches to take in the bust a little. Other more expensive stores were not as helpful.

  • I also had a great experience with my local DB.   As the others have said that it seems to be very hit or miss with them.  I would suggest asking on your local board to see about the ones in your area.As for the fabric being cheap...I have to agree with a pp in that I felt that my dress was of much better quality than a few other designers that I tried on as well.  So, not all DB dresses are of low quality.  They have a lot of great dresses for very reasonable prices.
  • We went to go pick my dress up yesterday and it was a mess. The bustles were off, the bust was crinkled, and there were still pins in it from my prior fitting. Long story short, after spending ALL day waiting around for them to try to fix it, they sent me home with a new dress. I don't love it but, it will work. They had another of my original dress in the same size so I tried it on but, once she pulled the straps up (my boobs were pretty much falling out!) it started puckering again. I think it was the way the dress was made in the bust but, they should've pointed it out before we paid $200 for alterations. Then the crooked bustle and pins just set me off. They stayed late cleaning and pressing the new dress and I am having someone here bustle it for me.
  • I went there as a bridesmaid in a friends wedding, and they were not helpful at all.  I am a size 0, and the smallest sample they could find was a 4, and the salesperson didn't offer to clip the dress, and all she said was "sorry."  I ended up ordering online, and getting the alterations done elsewhere. However, when I went as a bride, they were much more helpful. The salesperson kept pulling dresses that I didn't select though (a pretty lace gown isn't going to work for my winter wedding!) But overall they were much nicer.I went in last week with my sister (maid of honor) and she tried on a few dresses, and they were helpful then too.I think it depends on the day and the salesperson!
