Help me find "the one"

I have seen that you ladies have been a big help to many other brides looking for their perfect gown and I am hoping you can help me. I am looking for a flowey, most likely chiffon gown, with a halter or straps, with an empire waist, an a-line silhouette, and a corset back. I am looking for one that does not have a big full skirt. I am looking for a simple, not to busy gown. My budget is $1,000, but I would like to spend less than that if possible.I have been to david's bridal and have found some that were nice but they all had zipper backs. I also went and tried on Sophia Tolli Mathilde, and it was almost exactly what i am looking for except it is out of my budget and I was uncomfortable with how deep the plunge was on the neckline. Hopefully clicky link below.<url>http://www.sophiatolli.com/CollectionProductDetail.aspx?cname=SophiaTolli&did=0&pid=504146&year=2009&season=Spring&best=True&&lt;\url>TIA

Re: Help me find &amp;amp;quot;the one&amp;amp;quot;

  • Nordstrom and Jcrew have great dresses. Some go over your budget, but of course some are within too! Although I don;t know if many (or any) are corset back... good luck!

  • If something has a zipper back, a seamstress can usually pretty easily make it into a corset back.But it does seem kind of inconsistent--when something is long and flowy and empire waist, that doesn't really work with a corsets.  Corsets are for dresses that are cinched tight from the waist up.

  • I would recommend Maggie dresses like the previous post, too. She has many beautiful corset back gowns. To save money, I ordered directly from Pearls Place... when I first began shopping for gowns I got quite a few quotes from them and they were all at least $500 less than the bridal stores in Austin. I originally was interested in a Watters gown that was $1000 in the bridal store and just $400 from Pearls Place. The dress I ended up choosing was $1750 in Austin, and I came in right at $1000 with Pearls Place (which was my budget too).
  • If you found one that you love at David's (or anywhere else for that matter) but having a zip up back is a deal breaker for you, ask them if they can order it in a corset style. My dress is an Essense of Australia and they are almost all available in either. I went to David's and when I asked them if they could take off the train as part of the hem (I don't want a train as I will be having an outdoor wedding and I really don't want it dragging on the concrete) they said that they are under contract that they cannot alter the style of the dress but that someone else could do the alteration for me or some of them could be ordered without a train. I'm sure the same may be true of the zip up/corset back as well. Word of advice from my own experience - don't try to find your dress online. I tried doing this and ended up falling in love with a dress that was only available at one store in the entire state... so I drove there only to find out that it did not look as nice on me as it did on the model (go figure). Then I found THE dress in my local bridal shop the very same day. You clearly know what style you want - head to the bridal stores and tell them what you are looking for. They will be able to point you in the right direction. Also, don't give up looking, and don't be too set on the details. When I started looking, I wanted a halter top in chiffon or satin with a drop waist and no lace, beads, etc. I ended up with a sweetheart neckline in taffeta with asymmetrical pleats and beading and I LOVE IT. I must have tried on over 100 dresses and I was ready to settle. I had planned to put a deposit on a dress and ended up not making it in, then I found the one I love only 4 days (and another 15 or so dresses) later.
  • Thanks for all the advice ladies! I will keep looking and I will definitely keep going to my local shops and try everything on. I just checked and one of them actually does carry Maggie Sottero, and from her website I can see that there are several with what I am looking for. Thanks again.
