when to change into second dress

Im wearing my mother's wedding dress for the ceremony, which is a ballroom style gown, with a long train and bustle. and then i also bought a short strapless diamond white dress(that is just above the knee) for the reception. our ceremony is at our church, and then our reception is at an outdoor vendor, under a pavillion next to the river. we are doing all the traditional things, first dance, cutting the cake, garter/bouquet toss. my biggest thing right now(19 days away!!!!!) when should i change into the second dress??? im not sure how the whole garter thing is going to work with such a short dress, and when is it usually done?? im thinking maybe after that and once all the dances etc are done i could change. . . . i dont know, please give me your opinions!!!

  • I would change after the cake cutting and and dances are done. That way, you'll have the rest of the night to dance in your shorter dress. The bouquet & garter toss are usually done after cake or even a little later. But, the DJ or band will usually let you decide that. I would want pics of myself in the vintage gown, for the cake cutting, that's why I suggested after that.

  • I've seen it done both ways, someone changing after the ceremony and picture, and also after 1st dance and cake cutting. I think its a personal preference, the question is do you want pictures of your 1st dance in the big ballgown or the short flirty dress. Personally I would change after the 1st dance.
  • do it after all your formal pictures are taken during the reception. Maybe after you toss the bouquet or cutting of the cakez
