When to do dress fittings....

So I'm a bit clueless on this one. Wedding is about 2 months away, I've lost weight since I bought the dress and still hope to lose a tiny bit more. Haven't gone for a 'fitting' yet because I think David's Bridal alterations girls suck! (sorry, at least the ones I've met so far) So I found a local lady that owns a small shop and will charge hardly nothing but told me to wait til Mid September since she was swamped. Is this too late for my first fitting? Please help!

Re: When to do dress fittings....

  • Typically 6-8 weeks out is a good time to start fittings. Mid September is not too late to do it though, you should have plenty of time. Personally, my wedding is in 17 days and I just had my first fitting Sunday. I'm kind of a unique case because my dress came in way late, I would have liked to start my fittings much earlier but a good seamstress can usually work quickly when necessary. Mine is also a local lady, she just works out of her house and she's going to do a hem and bustle in under a week.
  • I don't think it's too late. It might be better for you because then you can get the last fitting just before your wedding and ensure that it fits properly. My fitting only took a total of two weeks. I went in for the first fitting and we talked about all that needed to be done (she couldn't pin the bodice because of all the boning) and two weeks later when I came in for my second fitting everything was finished and perfect. She even made me a new veil.

  • If you are hoping to lose a bit more weight, I would schedule the fittings closer to your wedding date. I had 3 fittings - one a week starting 3 weeks before the wedding and my dress fit perfectly on wedding day. I think that 4 weeks is plenty of time to get your dress altered.
