Fake Wedding Date

You may have already heard this, but I found out too late, and wanted to make sure others did not share in my fate! When you order your dress, lie about your wedding date!!! Tell them you are getting married sooner than you actually are. I did not do this, and when my dress came in (4 weeks after they said it would), it was stained with yellow splotches so they had to send it back and have a new one made. Now I'm not scheduled to get my dress until less than a month before my wedding!!!! If I had gotten the "lie about your wedding date" advice prior to ordering, I would have a built in cushion and they may be trying harder to get my dress on time!!! So trust me, this small lie could save you tons of stress down the road!!

Re: Fake Wedding Date

  • i have heard this too.
  • Good advice.  I think they mentioned this in the Bridal Bargains book too.

  • I lied and told them I was getting married 4 weeks before our real wedding day.... it arrived early anyways, but I was happy not to stress about it. At my first fitting, I told them we'd just moved the wedding back a month :) Worked for me!
  • Thanks for the tip! I plan to start looking at dresses in October, I'll remember this.
  • I did this. I told pretty much every salon I went to that my wedding date was in December rather than April.  Some used that date as leverage to try to rush me into making a decision. The advantage of an earlier fake date is that if you need more alterations you don't have to pay a rush fee.
  • I did this also, I gave a date 4 weeks before my actual day.
  • This is another reason why I am glad I found my dress so early.  I'm not getting married until December of 2010, and went to dress shopping to make my mom happy! I didn't expect to find the dress so early!  It is being ordered in a custom length, and the estimated arrival date is February of 2010.  I have lots of time to make sure it is perfect! Great tip though!
