Petticoat....yes or no?

my dress is a taffeta drapped a-line dress. and the bridal store keeps telling me to buy a petticoat, but the dress looked fine without it. Any suggestions, has anyone regretted not wearing one?

Re: Petticoat....yes or no?

  • My dress was an a-line taffeta also and I didn't wear a petticoat. My bridal salon didn't even suggest that I purchase one. At DB, when I was trying on dresses, they kept telling me that I had to have one or I would get the "bridal wedge" (where the skirt goes between the legs when you walk). My dress (not a DB) didn't ever have that problem. I suggest trying on your dress and walking, dancing, sitting to see if the dress goes between your legs. If not, then I see no reason to purchase one.

  • Which dress are you wearing?  I am wearing a crinoline skirt, but that's because I want a fuller, princess dress look.  However, I have seen pictures of real brides wearing my dress with and without the crinoline, and it looks beautiful no matter what.  I think it just depends on your style.

  • I just got back from bridal shops today and one store told me that put a petticoat on to try on an A-line dress. I never had to do it in other stores but I followed her suggestion and wore it.  I felt it was a bit too much so I asked if I could try the dress on without the petticoat and we all liked it way better without one.  It feels so much lighter, too, not wearing a petticoat.  I think it's all up to you.
