PIP, please help!

I'm freaking out a little... the first picture is the sample I tried on in the store a few months ago. The 2nd picture is my dress that I just went for a fitting for and I'm freaking out because I think I look fatter/wider in my dress than in the sample... please be honest with me. I lost 7 lbs, didn't gain, so I don't understand why it looks so loose, but the seamstress said she can't make it any tighter b/c I won't be able to sit down. Please be honest and tell me what to do. I know i'm not a size zero, but i also don't think this is flattering on me at all. thank you.pic of sample in store:http://tinyurl.com/nol3b9pic of my dress:http://tinyurl.com/kn8cj9

  • oops just realized that I wrote that I lost 7 lbs and don't understand why it's fitting so loose - DUH lol, sorry it's early and I hardly slept.
  • I don't think it looks all that different. You have to take into account that the pictures were shot from a completely different angle. Also remember, that sample dress could have been tried on hundreds of times, so the fit will be different than your brand new dress. Are you worried that your dress looks loose or tight? I couldn't tell.

  • I agree with PP, I think it could be an angle thing. You definitely don't look big, it has a really nice shape.
  • What is the style and designer of the ivory dress (picture taken at an angle)They both look nice on you - the angle and lighting are completely different in these photos.  I wouldn't think twice about it ~
  • I think I makes you look bigger from the angle. But, it could also be beacuse of how loose it is! I'd ask another seamstress their advice! Show them the picture and tell them this is what you want the fit to look like. Try the sample on again and sit in it, can you sit comfortably?? GL!

  • I had the same exact problem!! When I got my actual dress and compared pics I was really disappointed.  Here's what I would suggest.  I went back to the bridal shop and talked to the manager of the store (who is also a seamstress) and showed her the before and after pics...she measured every detail on the store's sample and compared it to my dress...We realized that several little things were off but made a BIG difference.  (for example the thickness of the waistband and the angle of the waistband on my dress).  She also did many other little alterations and it made a HUGE difference.  Also, the angle of the picture does make a big difference.  I know in my case I felt really terrible after staring at pics of myself in a wedding dress that I didn't think was flattering after being so excited initially...I'm sure that's how you feel.  Just take a deep breath, talk to the store manager calmly, bring a friend/family member for support and I promise alterations make a world of difference.  Also have your friend/family member take lots of new pictures from various angles for you to look at.  I promise that will help.  Girls can be so hard on themselves - just keep in mind that if you find the right alterations lady you'll be just fine.
  • I completely agree with everyone here. I think it's definitely just the angle the pic was taken and the lighting is a bit more harsh. The dress is beautiful and if you've lost weight then it's definitely nothing to worry about. How did you feel when you had it on and were looking in the mirror? Did it look different in person too?
  • Thanks everyone, yes I feel like it is loose on my hips and is making me appear bigger than what I actually am. It's a trumpet style dress and the sample in the store was fitted through the hips which is what i thought a trumpet style was supposed to be. This area seems baggy on me. I wonder if she is acting this way though b/c the alterations were included in the price and maybe she just cant be bothered? Has anyone had their dress taken in in the hip area?
  • Absolutely.  If the alterations are included in the price, ask her to fix it until you are a happy bride!  Just explain to her exactly like you said in your last response.  You would like to have it more fitted in a trumpet/mermaid look, where it is fitted at the hips/thighs, and up to which point at your hips/thighs.  And any of the baggier parts are making you look bigger than you are.  Just be as clear as you can, so that she can produce something you've envisioned.
  • It looks like the sample is in ivory and your dress is in white. Colors make a difference, ivory is more slimming than white. Also, your bottom is right in the camera, that would make Heidi Klum look fat...it was fine, you look good.
  • My bridesmaids were told that the reason the samples fit looser than the dresses they got (ordered the same sizes because they fit well) is because samples are stretched out. I wish they had told us that then.
  • The dress is beautiful in both pics but they were taken from different angles so they look slightly different.   Also the dresses look like they are a slightly different color as well.  That would also make a slight difference.  Other than that I def wouldnt worry. It looks beautiful!!!
